91 Chevy Pickup Idler Arm

Decide to change the sloppy idler arm today. It has
the tapered joint that fits in the "drag link" I think its called. And the other end is about a 6" piece with two holes that bolt to the frame. This piece has an offset built in that changes the center to center pivot point about 2 inches. I think the one I took off was put on wrong. The pivots in the drag link are about 17 1/4" center to center,
With the drag link the way it was, the idler arm pivot at the end of the offset arm and the one on the steering gear are about 18 3/4"C-C.Plus, the bend in the idler arm is causing wear on the frame. Question, should the pivot points on the
drag link and the center to center at the end of the Idler arm bracket and the steering gear pivot be the same. Hope you can understand this question, its hard for me too.

Allen have you ever seen one put on wrong on the Astro vans? I had one come in and had worn the tires off in a 1000 miles, the toe was only off by an inch & a half. I luv customers who have to do it themselves and don t know the difference between a screwdriver and a crescent wrench.

Well, I rushed right out and put it on with the bend away from the frame. The Pivot points now measure 17 3/8" center to center front and back.
And when making a sharp turn left or right, the tires no longer try to roll off the rims from turning to sharp. Thanks for your help, and keep the pictures and music coming.
