OT: Ford truck question

Ford keeps sending me a letter stating my 2000 f250 ps needs a 07s57 cmp, camshaft position sensor inspection/replacement. This has been going on for 2-3 years or so. The truck has been fine, so is this a real problem? should I take it in for this? Any info from anyone who has had this done would be appreaciated, TIA. J

About everyone I know around here who has a Dorf diesel of that era has had it DIE from a bad sensor. Some more than once.

Are worried you are going to be CHARGED for taking the truck in or what's the problem?

"REASON FOR THIS SAFETY RECALL

In some of the affected vehicles, the Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor may fail due to circuit
degradation. If the CMP Sensor should fail, the engine may stall. In the event of an engine stall, a
crash could result without warning. A new CMP Sensor with improved reliability is now available.

SERVICE ACTION

Dealers are to inspect the CMP Sensor to verify which design level sensor is installed in the affected
vehicles, and replace all prior level sensors. This service must be performed on affected vehicles

at no charge to the vehicle owner."

Take it in. My '95 F250 had a failed cps. I didn't know that and just about pulled my hair out until I gave in and took it to a pro. Next day, and everyday since, it has been right as rain. This was on my dime as there was evidently no recall for my particular truck. If they're gonna pay for it, let 'em do it.

Jay, I took in my O1, P.S. Dsl in last week! They removed/replace my sensor @ no cost to me, also Ford did the Cruise Control harness up date too, @ no cost to me, Did take about an hour I had a really good Service tech who schedules me or 8:00Am and I was out a little after 9:00! Had I known They were going to replace mine, I would have waited a little longer since I had replace mine about 1.5 yrs earlier, But if you are sencing you may have a problem of some kind, go get it done and it will be one item less to worry about. My Throttle position Sensor is acting up on mine right now, (process of elimination) My next try, It is an intermittent problem. Anyway go get it done all it willcost you is a little time.Hope this helps.

Funny thing is, there was a recall on the CPS that was replacing the one that was .... on recall. BTW, if you didnt know this, the CPS from a Navistar dealer is cheaper than one through Ford. Exact same peice, made by the same company, but cheaper through Nav. I only had one of those fail, and it was a simple 10 minute fix. Fortunately, it fail while I was still in the yard. If anything, take it in for the recall, keep the one they take out for a spare.

I know a couple folks who've been stranded by CPS failures. So I finally got around to getting the new style cam sensor installed (and also the cruise control harness replaced) under recall on my '99 just last week.

Took about 30 minutes at the dealer and cost nothing.

Thanks, I know there is no charge for it, I just dident know important it was. Like I said I have never had a problem with it. I'll call this week to get it in, maybe they will give me the old one too, like the other John said. Thanks guys

don't know about the sensor but i had to have the cam phasers and right side cam shaft replaced on my 04 f150. phasers gotten real noisy and then extremely loud. when got into the engine to replace phasers found the cam wore bad. no warranty, just $2500. 140k miles mix of city and highway with regular oil changes with texaco oil.

Cam Sensor will disable a Ford any where. Seems to happen when engine is shut off after being used hard. We carry a spare in the Co. Truck and every one [2] knows how to change it. Not a hard job.

Whats it do ? just idle , no pedal response ? Have replaced a BUNCH of pedal assemblies . Drive by wire is great ain't it ? lol

Ive had my 09 f250 co. truck in twice once for cam pos. sencer and now cam phasers at only 12000 miles. jim

Bryan, what is does is like there is no real control of the throttle. When it starts every thing is normal, then it goes to H3ll-in-a-handbasket, just barely touch the accelerator peddle and the RPMs shoot to 3000, get off the accelerator an it will go to idle, then touch it again the RPM shoot to 2200, back to a reasonable RPM, then bury the throttle as if to pass a car on the highway at 70 MPH it will respond correctly, then you are running 85MPH at nearly 3000RPMs get off the throttle, return back to idle as you are slowing down. All this takes place in a 2 mile are so streach of highway, the engine will violently go back and forth from idle to what ever RPM all the while I am just barely touching the throttle except for the burying the throttle to pass example. Then all of a sudden it is just as normal as can be! I was coming home tonight and it did it again. So I am thinking it may be the Throttle position sensor Any Ideas?

I'm surprised you are still thinking about it.If it is a recall there must be a problem.
Think they do that lightly.?
