quick repair fittings? Galvanized pipe

Hey folks,
I just discovered a water line that, if I could tie in to, would save me a whole bunch of grief. I don't have unough space to work a threading set, so would like to find a repair fitting like a sharkbite or compression ring (?) fitting. Anyone know if something exists that will work on galvanized pipe?

Thanks,

Dave

I do not think it can be done but I maybe wrong. I know you can use a rubber hose and a couple of hose clamps and that will work but I think that is about the only way. So if you go with the rubber hose you could use it to splice in something better right there and no use much rubber in the system

Depends on the size of the main line and the size line you want to attach to it. I got some kind of clamp on screw in fitting to feed an ice maker that came with it to feed a 1/8 copper off of a 1 inch black pipe. Where I used to work they also used some bolt around patch fittings on black pipe. Not sure what they were either but seemed to work well.

Like kyhayman said it depends on the sizes of pipe you are working on, but our fire system at work has clamp on fittings that you put on then drill a hole in the pipe. Then you just attach your new line to it. Not sure what they are called but they do make them. Steven

Any big lumber yard box store has line repair couplers in stock. I would use the Shark Bite, polish the pipe with emery cloth first.

Hey dave, Plumbing shops handle a pierce valve (used on humidifier lines to furnance units. They just tighten the valve assembly and it pierces the line for water flow to the humidifier assembly. We (when I worked for Sears As parts mgr)We had a supply of em in the stock bins. There still used today. .Allows access to water supply with out all the bother to dis-assemble lines and add t's etc. I did have several around but I think all my old brass went to the reclaimers.(junk Dealers as scrap brass. ) Give em A try. Hope this helps.

When i quit milking cows, the whole water system in the barn was prety well made up of dresser couplings. They're just a compression fitting. Cut the pipe, use 2 of them with a T and a couple of short pieces in between. They're just rubber farrels that slide over the pipe, then there's a threaded center piece with a big nut that goes on either end to squash the farrel. You can get them in either galvanized or PVC.

If you have a plumbing supply shop you can go to not" home depot or lowes" you can get 2 pack joint fittings with a male end on each and a tee and that will work.Just tell them what type of pipe and size and they will set you up. Hope that helps Mike
