Snow in SC?

That is the forecast for tonight even for us on the coast. We usually get a few flakes every other year or so and enough to stick about every 10. Then there was the blizzard of 73. I can promise you it won't be pretty on the highways. Most people down here start running into each other after a little rain. I am going to get my stuff done early and get inside. Any body out there got an extra snow shovel I could borrow?

The key word in "Global Warming" is Global.

Many think that their little "piece of heaven" is the world. Might be the reason for the geocentric theory of the planets for centuries.

Think back to your grade school days and how the teacher discussed that 70% of the earth's surface is covered with water. Now look at el Nino, what percent of the surface does that include.

Now take a trip a few feet or maybe a mile below the surface of the ocean. What's happening there?

So if you are considering what is happening on your section of land (1 square mile), you only make up 0.000000497% of the earth's surface. (I hope my math is correct)

Was planning to take Grandkids to the shelling of the statehouse in Columbia at 8:45 tomorrow. Big show about Sherman and cannons...but I believe I will stay away from roads with ice/snow. Gonna be lots of accidents.

It's supposed to start falling here in Bladen County tonight. They are calling for 3 inches. We usually get that amount every 2 or 3 years. We're only about 35 miles inland so the ocean usually keeps us warm. For some reason, I95 seems to be the snow and ice boundary most of the time.

Oldfarmer, excellent observations. I like the way that you push politics aside and look at the situations for yourself using common sense.
One point that I made earlier on here is that if you understand how a heat pump can cool in one direction, and produce heat in the opposite direction, it is simple to see how a warmer global climate can actually produce the moisture and cold temps needed for the record snows that we have gotten.
Besides, keeping records about what this old Earth's weather does is fun, but it means nothing. She is going to do what she does when she does it. (maybe that is they we use a female context?LOL)
By the way, after years of little snow fall in Upstate South Carolina, we had a record breaking 12 inches of snow back in 1987. Too bad we did not know the terms "Global Warming" and all of that so we could pin it all one one person.

it was warm enough to grow grain in Greenland from 950 to 1320 and then it got colder . the Norsemen lived on the coast also. Wait a while and it will change again . hasn't been that warm in a long time almost 700 yrs. but it's been there and will get there again . (Norse in Greenland) is the study just in case your interested so let's not hear any more Al Gore bull. Global warming, it's always warmed and cooled.

Yea, but his 0.000000497% IS part of the globe. If ya wanna call it something, call it "a part of the globe" warming.

That time period was also about the time the southwestern US got drier, semi-drought conditions and the Anazasi had to move some, get into defensive cliff dwelling, watch out for Athapascan (apache and Navaho) hungry migrating tribes, Mexican tribes that may have been related to Aztecs- the indications of warfare and cannablism similar to what Spanish found later.
Another situation about that time- herring schools shifted away from coast of Norway, etc and the local fishermen started to look south for more fish or whatever they could find, however they could get it. Result is often called the Viking age of conquest- raids and later settlements in Ireland, England, France (note the Normandy region named for them). The stories about Vikings coming to America seem to have left some evidence in New England area-settlement building foundations and pole support holes- and the Mandan Sioux with red and blond hair noted in 1800s before smallpox and other new whit illness devastated plains indians. Another localized climate shift now may have interesting results- the current central and south African ruckus"s in Sudan, etc are blamed partially on drought conditions pushing unfriendly tribes together. US has had a few places with long dry spells- arguments about water between states make the news at times. RN

Sort of odd how your county misses a lot of the frozen stuff.. Watching the temps on the weather over the years, the Isothermal thing seems to be true..

It is snowing now. Everything is covered. Instead of worrying about global warming, we need to worry about global cooling! I took the P1D35 virus since I wrote this a.m. Can't enjoy the snow. :( Goodnight
