Ok so I need to figure out a cheap/easy/air tight way to add a gun post to my front door or door area. Stupid no good con was back on my porch tonight. By the time I could get the 44mag and then get the door open which makes just enough noise for it to here it had run off. I went out but he was to far gone before I got far. Now for the real bad thing. I had just got out of the shower so in my bath rob, and slippers. 44mag in hand about 15 degrees out and I step out the door. Well we have one of those that will open on the inside but be locked on the out side so I'm locked out. Had to knock on the door to get back in. Boy am I mad at that coon now LOL Oh guess I should have warned you guys to put on your seat belt so you would not fall out of your chairs

you know old I thought I had a pretty unusuale problem, skunks and coons under my house, its a modular and did they have a time getting into my insulation....big mess...had to go to west coast from va.left my trap out where they were going in unbaited ,well 5 days after i got home grand kids said i had another skunk, theres no tell how long the poor thing had been in there was gone over 20 days, long story short i got 5 skunks and 3 coons all in all drove rebar down and cemented the axcess hole..first time and i hope the last WHEW!!!!!

You're taking on the problem ALL wrong..... Get you one of them camera tripods, put you a little padded yoke for your wrist so it's real comfy, then rearrange the furniture so you can watch TV and the porch at the same time. When Rosco shows up, let him have it from the comfort of the recliner...... If that's not appealing, build a live trap.

How about a dog door mounted up high on the door?Sure be a conversation piece after you blast the coon! Good luck They can be real frustrating! Coons, not dog doors....

That is the worst..... locked out and in that situation, time for a flapper or trap door somewhere or trap him then shoot or something, at 15 deg, that could be dangerous to someone not in tip top shape help, good you got back in, right situation, that is not good by any means, darned coons !

that's to easy , I like these stories , don't mention the trap again . Old I have mounted a seat belt on the computer chair and buckled in ( ready )looks like I'm going to be here for a long time this winter may as well enjoy.

Yep,,,I also go with the live trap,,,,Best money i ever spent,,,,Coons love cat food,,,Of corse so do CATS...LOL,,,,,,Iv also used eggs,,,,Helps to give the cats a break,,,LOL

Use a shotgun. You don't have to be as accurate and the bang is farther away from your ear.

Those creatures seem to know when you're vulnerable, as in the shower. A couple of years ago when I got out of the shower I could smell skunk. Threw on a robe, went to the back door to take a peek and there on the deck, right under the bathroom window were two skunks having a love affair. They rolled and squealed for awhile and then went separate ways. Marilyn watched the act for awhile and then mumbled something about violent sx. Jim

Get a stream lite. It is the brightest flashlight available. I recently had a coon in the chicken coop at four in the morning. I went out with the 4-10 and the stream lite. The stream lite was so bright it froze the coon in his tracks. I put the barrel of the lite in my mouth and shot the coon. It really worked good. I used to have a maglite taped to the shot gun, but this is so much better.

Old, I can relate to getting locked out in the cold. A few weeks ago around midnight the wind started blowing pretty hard and I decided that we should put up the awning on our motor home. My wife and I went outside in our pj's and it was about 30 degrees out. After getting the awning secured, I went to open the door and the door handle over-centered and would just flop there and we could not get in. Now it is dark out and we are in a large area with no one close by and we have no keys, phone, the outside cabinets are locked up and a cold wind is blowing. The only think I could find was a pair of stay bars that I bought at the swap meet. I was getting close to breaking a window when I finally got the end of the bars between two sliding windows and was able to get enough of a gap to slide a bent wire tent peg in there and release the lock. It still took a table and some effort to crawl inside and then yell out to my wife that I was going to bed now.)

Beans in a pot an old cake of bacon with Mr. Coon on my deck with old tail a shaken
My buddy OLD he cant shoot he’s to cold and DAMN he is a shaken:
Get a live trap and a can of cat food my good friend it works GRRRRRRRRRRRRRATE.

Problem with a live trap is I would end up trapping 20 cats before I ended up with one coon. Ya btdt and found out the cats get in the trap more often then the coons do

Sorry have to disagree with you on shooting a running coon with a pistol I just did it a few days ago. But I also guess you did not see that post. I use a shot shell in my 44mag so it is more like a 410 shot gun that way

Use a live trap with suger donuts, takes a pretty hungry cat to want to eat a sugar donut but coons and skunks love em.

I been on a diet for awhile, so if you use donuts, make sure the trap is small enough that I can't crawl in.

Ever notice how this board sounds like an episode of "Little House on the Prairie" sometimes? Seems like there's never a dull moment down at Old's place.

I have a darringer double barrel pistal..AKA pocket cannon. It shoots 44. Use 410 shells and shoot possoms, coons, etc. works great. Just doesnt have a lot of grip to hold onto. However been told not to get caught by the law with it and 410s in it...considered saw'd off shotgun.

Back door is 70 foot or so back and then I would have to walk around in the dark in the snow and then be shooting towards the house and door which by the way the door is 80% glass so that would not work well.

They made a gun like that and it was in fact legal to own that was 45/410 saw many of them years ago in gun shops cops could not say a thing about them unless you had it in your pocket where they could not see it and then that is a different story

Yea them things are pesky. Had one on my front porch a couple years ago. Getting in the cat food every night. Covered it with a 5 gallon bucket. Knocked it off and had his fill anyway. Decided to shoot him but opening the door made too much racket. Finally left the window up one night and the porch light on. When I heard the coon I eased to the window with my 22. got down on one knee, took aim and fired right through the screen. Left a small hole that the wife put a small piece of cotton in so as to keep the nats out, but I got the bugger. Lucky shot. By the way the cat was sitting on the other end of the porch watching all this. I suppose he was wondering if he wanted to go back to his own feeder.

Sounds handy. I assume you're using only the 2 1/2" shot shell.
How close to the critter do you have to be? With such a short barrel, don't the shot scatter pretty quick?

As far as legal, Taurus advertises "The Judge" as shooting either .45 long colt or .410. So I would think it would be legal with the derringer.

But you said then that you didn't get or find him later so you can't say that you killed him.I have never seen a coon that a 410 would kill anyway unless it was point blank(less then 5 ft.)and never seen anything with shot shells kill any animal like that let alone with a pistol with shot shells.

Hopefully the photo will work..is this what you were remembering..old..I guess I was wrong its a .45/410. Great little "keychain" ha

Yep that little gun has been out for decades and yep 100% legal at least in most states may not be in CA but CA does some funny things any how

I have killed many a opossum with that gun out to the edge of my porch. Ya for a coon it is pushing it but to use a bigger gun might cause to many other problems

ROFL; BTDT ... Old, you made my day. Why don't you just make a pet out of that coon. He/she is becoming attached to you.....lol
