tractor chain size

If you were to lay a tractor chain on the floor what would the length and width be? For a 13.6 by 38 tire. Thanks for the help.

diameter of tire x pie for length if i remember right from school days. mind you thats a while back and cant remember what pie(or even if that the way you spell it) is. some thing like 3.45 i think . width about 6 to 10 inch wider than tire or so to rap around a bit on sides. hope you can do the math know i cant

hope that helps. rocko.

Pi is 3.1416 (that's rounded off) but remember, that's using the outside diameter of the tire.

Should be if I remember right Pie R Squared for circumference. But my dad always said that there was something wrong with that since Pies are round LOL

But Pi X 38 doesnt work either unless the cross bars let the side chains come clear down to the rim.
Wouldnt you have to go Pi X 48 or so to have the chains be positoned about right? :^)

Well lets think this out. The rim is 38 inches and then the tire is what maybe 12 inches from rim to the lugs so then you have to add not just 12 inches but 24 inches since the tire is all the way around the rim so 38 plus 24 would be 62 inches times pie so the chains would need to be 16.25 foot long give or take a tad bit and probably about 18 inches wide so you would have about 2.5 inches hang over on each side

widthwise, if you are talking double ring chains, 7 rings will work on a 13.6. i have 9 rings on the 15.5x38s and they would work on 13.6s too, just wrap onto the sidewalls a little more than the 7 rings.

When you get the chains mounted, the long side chains form a circle that sits about 5 or 6 inches away from the rim. So on a 38" rim the diameter of this circle would be 38"+6"+6" or 50".

Chains for tires with the same rim diameter, regardless of width, are the same length. The only difference is the length of the cross links.

i measured the chains on my 784. it has new firestone 14.9x38s and 9 ring chains. as close as i can measure, they are 27-28" wide and about 160" long. its kind of tricky measuring around a circle in the snow with a metal tape.
