OT/summer vacation

Wow it's dull on here today. So how about thinking ahead to a summer vacation? We rent a cabin on Dale Hollow Lake in Tennessee now and then. Got a brochure from them the other day with rental rates including house boats. You can rent a 50 foot houseboat for $1800 a week. Sounds like a lot,but compare it to a week on a crowded noisy cruise ship. A week on a quiet, beautiful lake with your own private houseboat? Sounds great to me. We've been out on that lake in a speedboat. Beautiful out there. I kept the brochure. Sounds like a great vacation to me. A definate maybe.

We bought a used pop up camper in 2005. Since 2002, we always go to an outdoor Christian music festival in Sioux Falls, SD-have camped there since getting the camper. We always say we should go locally-you know, for the weekend-but we usually don't. This fall we have found some real nice conservation parks, might have to change that statistic this summer! Greg

We take our 5th wheel to Nashville every spring for a week and then camp about everyother weekend. Last winter we took it to Gulf Shores and then centrail Fl.plan on doing that again next year

we head down to mountain home arkansas for a week every june, nice resort, laid back. right on the water. crystal cove resort on lake norfork
poke here

A week at the county fair helping the 4-Hers is as close to a summer vacation that I get and in the winter we spend it getting ready for summer work. I guess I'll vacation when I retire, oh wait I don't plan on retiring.

I would have moved to Tennessee years ago but my wife has family near us that need her help. Maybe you can look at some bulls for sale or buy a piece of equipment while your there and write the ''trucking''and the houseboat rent off your taxes next year. I forgot, you have to be a congressman or a cabinet member to get away with that kind of crap.

glennster that is a very nice place. I could not believe the clarity of the water in norfork. I didn't know water could be that clean and clear.

We've stayed on Norfork twice. I don't remember the name of the first resort we stayed at. It was down south of Mtn Home down toward the dam. Second time we stayed right up at the start of it at Dawt Mill Resort, technically on the river I guess. The lake doesn't start til you get to the south side of the road.

A houseboat is a good idea. We looked into them for Lake of the Ozarks and other places. However,..make sure you read all the fine print ,..they charge a pretty hefty non-refundable fee to SHOW you how to operate the boat. (Some fees are as high as $500.00.)Also you must get accident insurance,. i.e. more $$$ just so they make sure you don"t wreck their boat while you are having a good time. But if all is within your budget,..I"d say it is worth it.
The wife and I are heading to either Florida or South Carolina in April. Need to get out of this snow. Getting hit pretty hard right now.

What is a summer vacation? We have been married 39 years. I got 5 weeks of paid vacation a year plus the winter shut down week to 10 days. We always had to go to Texas to visit my in-laws so we have never had a real vacation. I retired 2 years ago. 2 years before I retired, we moved the in-laws up to just across the drive from our house. Now, the honey-do list is big on our end plus the list from the mother-in-law. And my wife doesent feel like she can leave her parents without them feeling hurt because we did not take them, too. I give up!

I guess my big vacation will be when I buy the farm. (the long dirt nap)

Yea,I heard a horror story once. Don't remember who was telling me now,but they said they rented one. Said the deposit was equal to the rental,so you pretty much paid double. Said they rented some old waverunner too that wasn't anything to write home to mother about. Paid a big deposit on that too. They said a drain plug came out of it and it sank. The marina wouldn't give them back their deposit on the houseboat or the waverunner. Pretty pricey vacation.

the lake has about 530 miles of shoreline, about 200 ft deep at the deepest. it is a resevoir lake like bull shoals and table rock. has a hydro power plant on the south end. i bought about 6.5 acres a block up from the resort a couple years ago. its a work in progress!!!!

Darn it,and I already got my taxes done! We could have written off the cabin rental from last year. We followed the 127 Yard Sale home and bought a plow,a fence stretcher,a set of sway bars for a 3 point hitch,a whole bunch of stuff. I'll remember that next time.

That's what you get every year after you quit milking cows. That'll put dieseldocs radar up won't it?
