O/T:What would you pay?

There's an auction coming up with a 1970 Ford F-250 Camper Special in it. I don't know any particulars as the sale is not for another few weeks. Assuming it runs, how much would you be willing to pay for it? I like old Fords and have been tempted by it since I saw the sales bill.

I like those old trucks too. Would like to see it or atleast pics of it. Then I would be willing to give out my price.

I have been looking for a different truck also. I see Ford trucks around 1990 going for 3-4 K. A 1970 should be around 1,000. Alot depends on condition. Stan

There is a lot to look at, but if age and the body is in fair to good shape $1000 to my $1,500 if it is in great shape $1.500 to $2.000 MY BE.

If you want it bad enough you just buy it,,,Who cares what people think,,,,,,,,,You just have to set your own limits.

If it is not a total rust bucket, and it has decent tires, it could bring around $1,000 or more. Look it over carefully. Get under it if possible and check those cab mounts for rust. Also check the radiator support as well as the front fender aprons (inner fenders). All of the parts that rust away are available through the aftermarket.

I wish I was the one to set the price limits on what I get at auctions around here! If it will make the farm run better, I can usually get the CFO to approve. If it is just another project for a middle-aged guy, she tends to frown!

No honey, we really DO NEED ANOTHER old tractor, just in case the other four aren't working and I need to get firewood hauled to keep the house warm for our dear little children!

It all depends on condition. If its rusty, engine smokes, poor tires and loose steering its a $400-$800 truck. If its "grandpa's truck" that hasn't seen salt, is under 100K miles, looks good, runs good with a good set of radial tires it could easily go over $2500 and maybe a lot higher depending on options - especially if its 4X4.

Depends on the 'cryer' too! The area where my Dad grew up has an auctioneer who can get you to spend more than new on most stuff...!

carry a small magnet with you...try to stick it to front corners of roof above gutter, lower door corners, bottom of bed panels, front of hood...if magnet doesnt stick, its body filler...cab mounts are notorious for rusting too but there are replacements available...floorboards go bad too.

power train is pretty straight forward...if it has a 360,check oil pressure...they were hard on cam bearings and mains...they'll run forever loose tho...check pinion bearing in rear end by trying to move it up and down and twisting driveshaft...alot of movement indicates wear.

check front end too...king pins can be a PIA to replace but they arent too expensive.

theres more i cant think of rite now but that should keep you from getting took too bad.

i've seen the older models go for quite a bit so price is up to you...check truck out and if you like what you see...set a price in your gut and go for it...if it goes over...walk away.

You have to love driving old trucks. I love the sound my door makes when you close it.

For some reason, in Oklahoma old Fords go for cheap, even a pretty good 70's Ford will only bring $1000 - 1500. Chevys on the other hand can go for big bucks. I've been offered 4 grand for my nothing special but solid 71 Chevy C10.. Go figure..

Another thing to remember is the amount of taxes, licensing fees, and insurance you pay for an older truck versus a newer one.

At least in Kansas you would be saving a LOT of money.

Though some modern engine stuff is good I would personally rather have a simple one I can easily work on myself.

The color is a specialy made blue pearl which started as a stock nissan color. The painter did some changes then gave me the formula # when I finally picked up the truck. The paint came from PPG Co.(formally known as Pittsburgh Paint Glass Co.) The truck has 2 coats of blue and 4 coats of clear.
