OT, chev 2500 vs 2500HD

Looking at a 2000 2500 chevy 4x4, with the 6.0, all I have had in the past were 350"s and 454"s. The truck seems to run out great, but has high miles,270,000, It has just recently had a 8"6" bosss v plow added to it, and they are asking $7500. I figure the plow should be worth $1500-$2000, so looking at $5500 for the truck. Its ex cab, long box. Would probaly put the plow on my 97 1 ton 454, and the 2500 would be my family truck. How are the 2500"s compared to the 2500HD"s? I think even i the motor were to go bad, or the transmission, I could stick a few grand in it and still have a resonable truck for the money. Any thoughts? Wife is after me to dump the rusty ol "93 1500.

I have the same truck. I know a couple people that have needed a new 6.0L with a lot less miles. The 6.0 has good power but is a pig on gas. The 2500HD almost has 1 ton components but the prices for parts are a lot higher as well. You'd be better off with a 1/2 ton for a family truck. Dave

I would check to make sure you can still get a plow mount and wire harness for that plow to fit your 1997.

I think the price seems fair if it looks like its been taken care of.

I would never buy an old "plow truck". Normally they have the living **** tore out of them and a 1000 miles on a plow is like 20,000+ miles of highway driving.

i have a 03 2500 HD with the 6.0. it gets 12-13 mpg around the farm, and only 14-15 on a trip. thats about the only thing i don't like about the truck. mine has 147000 miles and i thought that was a lot.

Might want to check the cab corners and rockers, there are several here in kentucky that are rusted out with as little as 100,000 on them, and we aren't exactly in the salt belt.

If it is a K-2500 and not a K-2500-HD . I have a 2004 K-2500 Crew Cab With a 6.0 engine Auto trans and a 3.73 rear. I get 17 MPG on road and 13+ pulling a 5700 LB Camper. We like it but mine only has 63000 Miles on it. The HD's tend to have heaver running gear & lower gears.

I have one that is a regular cab and I don't know how you are figuring when you say you can give that for it, and quite possibily put a few grand more in it and come out. Mine only has 127,000 on and I don't think its worth 5500 but you are a grown up and can make your own decisions.
Good luck....

I can tell you this much.... If they put a NEW Boss, 8'6" V plow on it, that shelled more like 6-6500 right there. Least that's where the Fisher's priced about 2 years ago for the same basic thing.
If the plow is in VERY good condition then the price is not too far out of line for an old high mile truck.
Still more money than I'd want to spend tho...

sounds to me like you're buying the plow and getting a truck in on the deal, I just looked at trading my 2000 GMC 2500 just like the one you're looking at, with just over 203K and I got an offer for a trade allowance of $1500. SO I'm going to drive this one till her wheels fall completely off, and just drive the newbie sparingly. PLus I haven't had to do that much to the one I have, First thing I had to do was a brake job and front hubs and both were done at 150K. I have owned this one since she got unloaded at the dealer.

Have a 2000 with 281000 on it. so far only changed one starter, one altenator belts and breaks etc.original water pump. if she blows tomorrow it is still best truck i ever had. ps 6.0 4x4 still has cold air

Just don't hope that 6.0 gets any better mileage than your other engine. They love the gas. Our 6.0's drink as much as 454 vortecs and 8.1's when hooked to trailers. Never had one come apart though.
