Iam restoring a 1948 case vac and would like to know what color the rear axles are. I have seen some in flambeau red and some black and some silver. If anyone knows for sure would you please let me know. My e-mail is [email protected] My telephone is 269-9647748 Thanks Jim

You've gotta remember they weren't making showpieces back then. EVERYTHING was painted at the same time on tractors back then. Ususally no primer even. Slays me when folks are restoring and think they have to have the starter and generator black, distributer cap and wires unpainted, you name it. That's just ain't how it was.

As the tractors came off the line they were complete except for the wheels and tires and they all painted from head to toe in Flambeau Red. The only parts that were different were the wheels which were silver. they didn't get to excited about making them pretty. A lot of people now like to paint them up pretty with black starters and Generators and even the seat and with that hard very shiny paint. I like them that way but if you want it all original them just remove the wheels and start painting.

going to differ with you guys.most vintage Case photo's show black starters ,generators and often air cleaners. A now deceased Case dealer from Madison, SD by the name of Harvey Roden confirmed this to me in person that vender items were black. Check out the book "Case Tractors" 1912-1959 photo archive. by P.A. Letourneau.

Could be right about that. We bought an origional SC about 1965 and that just might have had a black starter and generator now that I think about it. Maybe a little too much of a general statement about tractors of that vintage in general.
