I was put on a commitee to put on a tractor rodeo at our county fair. This will be for all ages and also gals. The intent is fun plus crowd entertainment.Any suggestions or input? We want it to be around 2 hours in front of the grandstands. Also might have 4-H and FFA group competion. We will have traditonal backing 4 wheel trailers and hitching but want input how to make it fun to watch. We will also have the tractor club there to parade their tractors and hopefully participate.THANKS!

Also the Farmall tractor square dancing. A video
is available from this site. "around the corner
with a super C" I remember these fun events at
the fair in the 50's-60's--? Chuck

Races of any kind are crowd pleasers. 50 ft. drag races. Barrel rolling races. Fast start crank races. Also timer accuracy events.
Keep them safe and keep them short distances.
A good anouncer is always important.

Slow race can be fun if you some well tuned tractors that can idle near stall see who can go the slowest for 25 feet without using the clutch or stalling.

Thinking that a tractor rodeo, like a conventional one, should demonstrate operator skill.
Crack an egg) Contestants back tractor up to
an egg in a fixture. Idea being to crack egg shell, not crush it. Winner(s) get to make omelette
for not so gentle operators to eat..lol

Wire slide/push) Move an object hanging from
string or wire . Could be done for time. Have different sections to simulate curves and sidehills. Tractors would need a bracket to attach
a paddle. Paddle would need to hang down so that
bracket would not push object through course. Trying to recreate the challenge of using pull behind harvest equipment.

Wire slide/push,round two) Bracket now mounted on drawbar. Driver attempts to move object on wire
by staying correct distance away from wire w/o
seeing paddle. Simulate following a planter marker and keeping guess row perfect.

Tie breaker/Master challenge) Have operator back up a four wheel wagon hitched to a two wheel wagon hooked to tractor. Anybody ever back up a baler or chopper train ?

Good luck and have fun, post back after fair with pictures !

How about a driving course using a "reverse steering" tractor? On tractors with hydo steering, such as the later David Browns, you can reverse the hoses at the bottom of the steering column. With this switch, when you turn the steering wheel to the right, the tractor turns to the left.

Our club, and me have been putting them on for about 15 years. Head over to the web site and look through the links for tractor rodeo. You will fine rules, and pictures there. Any questions feel free to ask.

Good morning Bud:

Try these:
1. pole bending: {weaving in and out of pilons}
2. barrel racing: {clover leaf pattern}
3. stake race: {drive down to the end and drive around a barrel and get off of the tractor and get the flag.
4.the barrel roll: {lay a barrel down and roll it so many feet.
5. chain drop:Hook a chain on the draw barr back up and put as much chain in a circle as possible thin un hook it:
6. Egg race: put a plastic spoon in your mouth and put a egg on it now get on the tractor and start it and drive what ever distent you them to drive, turn off tractor and get off:if you drop the egg you are out of the game:
I have done these before they are fun:I hope this will help you

Obstacle course pulling a farm wagon with really loose steering. Especially fun to back into narrow slot where they don"t have a straight shot into it.

I should add that we try to have fast passed events, and alot of different games. We try are best to have 2 tracks running at all times. The slow race we try to run as many tractors as we can at once. Winners advance to final heat if you cant get them all in one race.

Just for laughs, team event, did this at truck rodeo.
Equip needed- riding lawn mower/garden tractor, kids little red wagon, 2 or 3 gallon bucket of water for each team. 3 or 4 teams .
Track- fig 8 or oval, approx 30-40 ft long.
Announce as timed event. Good announcer can work crowd for laughs.
Don't tell anyone, but no prize for speed.
Contestants run in age groups.
Event- one team member drives, partner rides in wagon, holding bucket of water. Try to drive so as rider doesn't get TOO wet. Switch driver/ rider positions & run again.
Usually after rider gets a bit wet, will dump whole bucket over driver's head. Husband-wife teams get best audience response.
