Got skype hooked up and running for about a week now. Amazing. Talked to a friend who works in Japan; came in real clear.

Use it to talk with my GF in India when we are apart.
I would say it works ok. Couple things can mess it up. If your Internet is less than stellar it doesn't work the best. Also you can do conference calls but the more parties that get on the connection really starts to go.
For international it seems to be the way to go though. There is also a Instant Messaging feature as well as games if you are so inclined.

yep i have it to talk to and old friend . It ain't perfect but we can see each other
We use it all the time for International calls. Skype to skype is free even for video calls. Landlines in Europe are about 2cents a min. calls to cellphones about 20cents a min.
My daughter spent the fall semester in France. We used it almost daily. With a good internet connection quality is great. Calls can be fustrating with less than an excellent internet connection.

I've used it for four years now. Calls to US landlines is 2 cents a minute instead of a dollar a minute with Telmex and family has it, so calls are free. I usually have nice clear service, even when talking to my brother in Baghdad. It's cut my phone bill from 100+ dollars a month to less than $10.

We talk and use the web cam to visit with my son and his family in Kuwait. Used to use yahoo's instant messenger, but we found that Skype just seems to work better.
It's software that turns your computer into a video phone if it has a camera and microphone, or just a regular phone if you have a microphone.
