MF 240 Fuel Useage per hour

Snowbound tonight so we are working on Taxes. I'm trying to estimate how many gallons of diesel fuel this tractor would use per hour, plowing, disking and spraying etc. According to the tach the tractor has operated 100 hrs this year.
Thanks Robert in Md.

Nebraska test summary shows a 235D using 2.10gal/hour at rated PTO speed. I imagine a 240D would be very similar fuel consumption.

Why are you worried about a 40 HP tractor only being used 100 hours a year? The 3 cylinder Perkins diesel in a 240 is the same engine that held the Nebraska fuel economy record for all tractors for quite a few years in an MF 150. It was also used in the 135, 235, 230, 245, 231 etc. It is still comparable to the fuel economy of new tractors with new technology. Fuel economy depends on the load and a bunch of other factors. I think it would burn a lot less than 2 gals. an hour even under a heavy load. My 135 can go a long time on a tank of fuel. I think if you estimated about a gallon an hour would be closer. Dave

I agree on 1 gal/hr.. My MF 245 sips fuel, It uses so little, I have to remind myself to fill it up..

I have kept up with fuel use in my Skidsteer, with a bigger Perkins 4 cylinder 1004, 86 HP.. on easy use, just smoothing ground,1 gal/hr.. Hard use, digging, with black smoke out the stack, about 1 1/2 gal/hr..

If you put enough weight on it to actually pull something you can expect it to burn very close to 3 gph on hard work. Otherwise you're going to see lesser figures, something like the others have suggested.
