Is it possible to convert an 850 Ford to a live PTO?

Anything is possible with enough $$$$, but it ends up being a transplant rear end from an x6x, so it's not practical to do. There are very many different parts inside, it's not a simple item or 2.

Yes it can be done if you find an 861 with a bad engine and put your engine in it. Or in other words you would be $$ ahead to trade that one in for an 861 if you can find one that is

I have to agree with the others, get yourself an 860 or 861 instead. Or just get by with what you have, just like the guy before you did before he sold it to you!

Well no, we looked into that with our 850 and no there was not a way to do it. We just learned to live without it.

If you have a front mounted pump you can drive the pto by roller chain from an orbit motor.
