A supply company we use, our salesman continualy messes up orders, does not comunicate when there is a problem. There have been many shipping issues. When pinned down he prommises to abate shipping or give free items (which never happens). Friday it came to a head my secutary called the central office and talked to them they are preaching a different tune as to who can do what. The accountant was "none to surprised we had issues with the salesman" MY REAL QUESTION HERE IS SHOULD I CONTACT THEM MONDAY (THE MANAGEMENT) AND LAY THE CARDS ON THE TABLE: OF EVENTS OVER THE PAST YEAR? (INCLUDING SENDING A LETTER) 2. DO YOU THINK MANAGENENT REALLY CARES? I don't se how they can correct it if i keep it in the dark I am asking for a new salesman too.

im not sure how much clout you have in your company or just what is being supplied, but if a supliers inability to keep up his end of the game is affecting your companys output, its time for a whole different supplier, the company i work for had a similar problem last year the product was diesel fuel, the company burns app 2000 gallons a week, and was suposed to be sent 2 trucks a week, to top off company bulk tanks, it got so we got 1 truck a week, higher prices, [ higher than competitive wholesale purchases] , then a truck when they felt like it, crippling production, the fuel company rep always said he'd take care of it, numerous phone conversations as well as a personal visit from our boss [ and he was red hot smokin when he left here] didnt help, we got a new supplier and things are much better,if that company cant keep you supplied maybe loosing the account will get their attention

It is better to be up front and honest, keep cool
and put every card face up.When it all started.Dates, who you talked to,what was said.
In the end one of two things is going to happen.
1. They will tell you to take a hike,{there is a nother supplyer elswewe}
2. If they want your money they will make it right
and correct the problem.
GOOD LUCK:

Definently get your upper management involved! If a supplier isn't carrying their end of the deal and you remain silent, everything will become your fault and YOU will be the one looking for a new career. If the salesman isn't being truthful and up front with you, he/she is not worthy of your business. Move on, it's you or them.

I only deal with a "Stocking Distributor". Sure there are salesmen come by with the same old song and dance. "I can get you this for bla bla". My first question is," What is the lead time?", if it is more that two days, Forget it!
Why is this salesman still with this company? These guys are a dime a dozen.

If you have the authority to do so---I would probably tell the company to send me a catalog to order from OR a different salesman and that the current one will no longer be given orders to screw up.

Time to get a new supplier !

Even in these tough times it is still amazing to see so many that care so little.

I've dealt with the same problem with various suppliers and have come to a conclusion how I handle it. I've been a business man all my life and if the acts of one of my people is losing business for me I want to know it.

Therefore I call somebody in the supplier company, (high enough up to remedy the situation) and tell them what I'm upset about. I try to be very calm and business like. I honestly tell them that this is putting my business with them in jeapody.

Most will fix the problem and thank me for bringing it to their attention.

A few get defensive and make alibis. They usually lose my business.

A couple have told me how wrong i am and how great their people are and how i should be ashamed to tell them about an employee that makes mistakes, never returns calls and talks sports all day. But Its my money and I'll spend it where I get fast, accurate, well priced service.

No mater what the business is tell the management now! Lay your cards on the table and tell they this has to be straiten out now! There is no body in any company that cant be replaced! A useless salesman will do allot of damage to a company, and in this economy who can afford this. They will either make it right and keep your business and get rid of or straiten out this salesmen or you will take your business elsewhere! I hate to be this way, but if your depending on there products or service and not getting it your losing time and money and maybe customers. Bandit

If you can, I would talk to some other suppliers and get quotes on the supplies you need. Then go to your upper management and lay it all out. Give them the options. 1) Stay with this supplier and see if they want to go talk to them to get the problem fixed or 2) Go with the new suppliers that you have contacted. It will show that you are trying to work the problem the best way you can.
