Oliver Row Crop 77-What year is it? Repost?

Sorry if this a repeat, but I don't think it posted. Thanks to all who weighed in as we considered buying a narrow front Row Crop 66 for hay rides. I was nervous it would be too tippy on our hilly farm. Instead, we just purchased a 77 Row Crop, wide front. It was just repainted, so the decals are missing and I want to order new ones. I understand the decal color is determined by the year of the tractor, which I don't know. I finally found the serial number plate (painted over!) in a tight space on the lower right frame, very difficult to access by squeezing in between the frame and rear tire. Is that where it should be? The serial number is: 343904, which doesn't exactly match the Tractor Data info I looked at. It's off by only one digit, though. Any idea what year we have? Also, in looking online, I notice slight variations on the paint jobs of this model. Some have a yellow strip taking off from the lower grill and continuing into a point below the side curtains, and some do not. Why the diference?
Thank you,
Susan (Proud, but confused new Oliver owner!)

Susan,Thats the proper location for the serial #,according to the book your tractor is a 1952,you'll have to ask someone else about the paint variations.

Thank you, Mike! Someone else just told me it was a '51. The confusion continues! 1952 is the year the decal color changed...I don't know whether to buy yellow or red. Susan

Very interesting serial number because the info I found states that the '52 models started with serial #347904. That would make your tractor a very late 1951.

Thanks for the information! I was stumped by the serial number, since the tractor data charts don't list my exact number. Now for my earlier question about the paint variations--any ideas there? I really like the yellow strip running beneath the side curtains I see on some 77's, but I won't add it if it's not correct for mine. Susan

50 and older used the red decal. If yours has the serial plate on the side of the transmission, that means it had band brakes and would have the yellow stripe all the way back on the frame. They stopped using the long yellow stripe and moved the serial tag up under the dash when they went to the disc brakes on the first 77 made in the 52 model year. Go to oliverdecals.com and get Lyle DuMont's phone number. Call him for the decals and he can set you straight with any paint or decal questions you might have.

Thank you, I'll call him. I was just about to order the yellow decals because one website said that's what would belong on a '51.
