What do you know about the 955 V8 that was in the 8850 and the 844 wheel loader? Were there any problems with them and if so what were they and what could be done to remedy the problem? Thanks.

I know they had a bad reputation. Not sure on the specifics.
Deere's eventual solution was the N14 Cummins...

A couple years ago the kids had one in the diesel class. The kid worked for the owner of the gravel pit so it was in a loader. Those engines are not all alike. They put a used engine in they got from Kinzie. Had to chainge a bunch of stuff. The bottom end was bad on it.

Either got a good one or a bad one that just ate parts and $$$.
There were overly complicated engineer's wet dream built like a race engine rather than an industrial engine.
The straight six in a heavy diesel is tough to beat. One of the very few V6,V8,V12,V16 series of diesels that ever worked and were durable were the two stroke Detroit Diesels.
