Steyr Tractors?

I just saw a local classified ad for a Steyr 8160 4x4 tractor. I've never even heard of Steyr tractors, let alone seen one for sale. I'm guessing Steyr is a European manufacturer? Austrian maybe? (like the firearms manufacturer). What might an 8160 be worth in good running and operating condition? I'm not too interested in buying the tractor, just curious...

Also, does anyone have further information on Steyr tractors, ie. company history, were they good tractors or junk, how easy were they to work on, current parts availability, etc.

Thanks!

Yes, Austrian. Can"t tell you much ore about them tho, although they were bought out by CaseIH maybe 10 years ago. Not sure if they ended up getting sold in the New Holland/Fiat merger or not.

Don't know much about them... but I beleive Steyr was owned by NewHolland prior to the CaseIH buyout... They still are, and IIRC, STEYR developed CNH's version of the CVT.

Steyr, has an excelent reputation in Europe. Dont think they were ever exported to north America. Now part of CNH.

As was already stated they come from Austria. Good reputation and expensive. Considered a premium tractor in Europe.

Look at their web site http://www.steyr-traktoren.com/default_en.aspx
Steyr is a reputable tractor and engine manufacturer. Based in Austria. Some of their tractors are based on the same "platform" as CIH, but equipped with more or more advanced features. Steyr also developed their own CVT (continuously variable transmission).

Hendrick, I just read an absorbing book, Soldier of Orange, by one of your countrymen, Erik Hazelhoff, about his exploits in WWII.

I'm having a hard time even imagining what you folks must have gone through during the German occupation.

Riot,
Soldier of Orange (Dutch: Soldaat van Oranje) paints a fairly typical picture of things that happened during the Nazi occupation. For some it was worse, better for others. In particular, our Jewish population suffered severely: thousands were deported and were killed in the gas chambers. In general the oppression and fear was the worst. Undernourishment and diseases took a heavy toll.
I have no personal recollection of the second world war but my parents and grandparents (now deceased) do.
Thank you for your kind response and thanks to the Allied Forces who, next to God, liberated us.
