OT/next year in Michigan

Do you guys in Michigan realize what we're going to have next January? We'll have totally new leadership in state government. A new Governor,Lieutenant Governor,Attorney General,Secretary of State,Speaker of the House and Senate Majority Leader. On top of that, because of term limits,AT LEAST 72% of the state legislature will be new. Quite an opportunity if we don't mess it up,that's for sure.

I would love to run for governor and win, I am sure that I could do a better job then Jenny. (of course Bozo the clown would be better then Jenny)

What is really sad is that the politicians dont realize that people (like us) dont like paying taxes and will move out of the state to get away from taxes, just ask all the businesses that have.

Remember Engler? I wonder if he could come back?

Not a chance. Too many skeletons in my closet and an increasing complacency about politics. One of the candidates for Secretary of State is a good friend of mine. She was our State Rep for 6 years. No way I want to go through the BS she went through in the House.

I wish! John was one of the most refreshing politicians I've ever known. After Blanchard! WOW! He spoke at the MMPA annual meeeting right after he was elected. He came into the back of the hall alone, about a half hour before his speech. When the president of the co-op introduced him,he walked up to the podium with no prepaired speech, just a copy of our resolutions. He stood there and went through them one at a time and was brutally honest. The ones he liked,he told us what he had in mind, the ones he didn't like,he told us flat out,not gonna happen. You don't get that from any other politician.

You say you have skeltons? So What? Look at Slick willy? Obammy, nnalert too. 1/2 the US congress are crooks, unless you commited murder then run for something.....Look at Ted Kennedy, he drown that woman and was elected Senator 6 or 7 more times.

Yea,but I wouldn't be running as a nnalert. I know skeletons are a resume enhancer for them, but I'd have to be squeaky clean. I was young and wild once. Let's just say I dated a lot of nnalert girls!

Your lucky you have term limits and can clean house once in a while. Wish we had them in Illinois.
I believe in the 2 term system, one in office and one in prison.
Chris

You wouldn't want John back, he went off the deep end the last 18 months of his term. Now he lives down in west Virginia with his wife. He did good things but has changed alot of what he stood for.

We have had term limits for quite awhile for the legislature. It hasn't done anything to improve it. Just a new cast of clowns. I think the most interesting canidate is Snyder from AA. Cox is gonna have some problems after being caught in "multiple affairs" a couple years ago. And the Kwamegate thing isn't over yet.

I totally understand your point but we in Michigan have one that bucks the trend. We have a guy in the House from Holland, Mi that is retiring and running for Governor. Pete Hoekstra is one of the very few people in Congress that I think is a straight shooter, and hopefully our next governor. It is amazing the people on this side of the state elect people as honorable as Hoekstra and the other side of the state elects people like Carl Levin. We had Spence Abraham to balance things out in the Senate but Detroit wanted abundant Debbie instead, so now we have had to put up with her nonsense.

It's too soon to endorse yet,but for common sense,Pete Hoekstra seems to have possibilities. We'd better be taking a good hard look at leadership and real ideas with a good grasp of what unintended consequences means. Electing celebrities ain't gonna cut it.

You'll have to outnumber/outvote all those 'Bought+PaidFor' voters of Detroit. They just love their 'free' stuff and the clowns that give it to them.
Jack

A few years back she was campaigning at the local 4-H fair. Asked her when was the last time she milked cows - Her response: " This morning."

Got my vote right there! Think she is a straight shooter, and an honest politician. Would vote for her again! Go Judy!

I just hope we don't blow our best chance in years to make some real changes. We can't handle another 8 years of doing nothing to fix the real problems. Maybe it just takes that long for our elected representatives to figure out that the old ways aren't working anymore and we have gone from a rich state to a flat broke, dead poor one. The people we send to Washington sure don't have a clue, but we keep sending them anyway.
Paul

Hoekstra has a very good position in Washington. Isn't he a bit of a weasel? He promised to serve only 2 terms, and he is on his 3rd or 4th? Now he argues against term limits, when he started out, he was for it. I guess being an incumbent gave him a different "perspective."

Without even talking about voting, anybody who plans to stay in Michigan for the forseeable future had better decide whether or not they can live with what they NEED,not with what they WANT,cause what they need is going to be all that they can have for sure. Not the place to be for luxury extras.

We all, as voters, have term limits ever since we have become a country! We are just too stupid, apathetic, complacent and whatever else to use them. We, the people, if we would stck together and vote the ba@#$%a&d's out of office. But it seems as if every one wants all they can get from the government and keeps voting them back in again and again. Yes, we do have term limits, we just don't use them.

Well, term limits got us our current legislature, I don't see how term limits will get us one that's any better. Case in point being Ruth Johnson, a relatively honest nnalert who was doing a pretty good job in the state House until term limits kicked her out.

The nnalert party in Michigan has done a lousy job of coming up with candidates who can actually get elected. Like last time around, when the nnalert gubenatorial candidate was a man whose only claim to fame was that he was born the son of one of the co-founders of Amway. If you think Granholm is doing a poor job, just imagine what kind of a governor Ritchie Rich, Jr. would have been like.

He would be better than what we have! I've had enough of Aunt Jennie's "Blow Away" politics. AND no one could buy Rich Devos off. [/i]

See what I mean about skeletons? All it takes is something that simple to turn voters against a good candidate.

All we can do is hope for the best ...

One thing i would like to see happen is all the Canidan trash stop comming here.

I was told there was something like 250 semis a day cross the Blue Water bridge just to dump the Canidan trash at the 28 mile dump .

As long as i can remember they have been doing this. That dump is huge and you can see it for miles. Who greesed whos palm to get away with this.

Tell me this isn't leaching into our water table and causing problems.

I think this country needs a good civil war.

We used to elect people to office for the right reasons. Quote "For the people by the people" .

We need to keep big companys from supporting elections..

We have laws in place here because of AAA.

Our seat belt law. Money money money.

The city that rights the ticket gets money !
We now get points for it ! Oh i'm insured by AAA and have points on my record , "higher rates" .

I never thought i would ever say this but "i'm assamed to live in such a srewed up place full of fraud.

Just my two cents worth...

Heard Rick Snyder speak, had the chance to ask him some questions. I was not impressed. He made a good speech, but he thinks like a RINO. Wonder if the Tea Party will have any good candidates? I like Joe Hune, he's trying for Garcia's seat, seems like he cares about farmers, and votes the way he speaks. Not real familiar with Hoykstra, but what I've heard, I liked. What we need is a "public servant" not another well seasoned politician who owes favors to all the unions, like Debbie and Carl

New leadership is a good thing, however when new people get elected it takes four years to break them in so they know what they are doing.
Oh ya,maybe the Driver Responsability Fees will be done away with.Talk about paying double fines,..those fees are a disgrace and just an additional tax. Sorry,..I am frustrated with our states leadership also and hope things will turn around in the next four years.

Remember Richard Posthumus? He was a good canadate for governor but lost to Jenny. The Detroit faithful saw to that. I know Richard personnally,..to this day he still farms over by Alto MI.He also runs a buisness by the Airport in G.R.

All you have to do is look at the voting map from recent elections to see that we are held hostage by the inner city ghetto gimme mine segment. Our State, our nation, and even most of our counties are like that now. Once the ghetto freebie bottom feeders became a larger voting segemnt, we must pay. Just as NYC, Chicago, and LA are ruining our nation, now, Detroit has ruined our state. Many counties rural communities must now also pay for their cities foolish gov't. As far as I can see, no incumbent should be in after '10 or '12 elections, dem or repub.

We have the same thing in Md. Look at a county map after an election, Alot of red. The 'Urban' sections control the state. Too many people in this country with their hand out, and more than enough Pols. on BOTH sides willing to give it to them at OUR expense.
Jack

You must be flat out dillusional. Our last GOP gubernatorial candidate had no claim to fame? You seem to forget the years his wife was the Chairman of the state GOP, and the involvement he had in many aspects of the party state wide.
yea, can you imagine what kind of job he would have done? ok, lets look at his background. He runs, yes runs, a multi bazillion dollar business, successfully, that employs people. Yes real non sucking off the government people. Until the last year, he has been a success at every business venture he has touched. Success in business equals jobs.
now lets look at dear Jenny. What has her claim to fame been? Oh yea, she held a slew of political positions, some of them well, some(the last 8 years) not so well. Has she ever in her entire life directly created a job? I am not even sure she has indirectly.
Don't try your spin here, luckily this side of the state didn't sip out of that Kool aid jug. Comparing a man who has blossomed at dang near everything he has touched to someone who has been a career politician is a poor comparison at best. You have Jenny, Levin and Stabenow put up by the nnalert and you think the nnalert pick poor candidates? lol

What ever happened to the guy from up by Cadillac area, Rick Johnson? He was a dairyman, he and his brother sold the cows and he ran for the state house. In short order he was elected speaker of the house with Kwamie being the Senate majority leader. I was on the state FB board at the time and went to Lansing to meet both of them. I will tell you, that was a day and night difference in management strategies, we all know how ole Kwamie does things. I just wondered what happened to Rick, he climbed the political ladder real quick and then seemed to disappear.

I stand corrected. Little Ritchie Rich has done two things right: In addition to being born with a silver spoon in his mouth, he also married a woman far smarter and more ambitious than he is.
