In the last 18 months or so we have seen some abnormally wet conditions. This has prevented us from getting the manure spread in a timely manner. So, the ground froze up monday night and we are busy trying to clean things up.

We had four big piles. You can see another in the background. With so little time to do the farming while it has been wet the manure has been on the back burner.

The sun made its first appearance in many days. Looks nice but the windchill was right at zero all day with actuall temps around 10F.

Travis was there to help me all day tuesday. He didnt have any trouble at all figuring out our new to us loader tractor.

I ran the trusty little 4230 and just drove around the field.

With it being as cold as it was some of the loads where steeming quite a bit. It really spread nice.

That is alot of.....stuff.

We didnt come any where close to getting done at the other farm yesterday. Today we worked here at home trying to clean up the lots.

Travis was at his real job today so cliff ran the loader and I spread untill Logan got out of school then I showed him how to run the spreader and I ran the loader.

There's Logan spreading. It was warmer today, near 25. A little snow shower came up about 3 this afternoon and put a nice layer of snow on everything.

And yes, wrigley was along helping today. He was very busy watching everything that was going on. Must have wore him out as he is currently napping!
We have about 3 more full days of hauling if everything goes ok. The endgate was froze shut on the spreader today so I left it open tonight. Everything is building up with the freezing manure in the cold weather but if we can keep the spreader freed up and the manure doesnt get alot of big frozen chunks we will keep going. At least in the middle of winter we dont feel like there is anything else we should be doing.

Looks like a lot of hard, cold work to me.

Thanks for sharing your photos with us.

Remember to pat Wrigley on the head for me and tell him he's a good dog.

I'm always amazed at how different the soil must be in the "breadbasket" of the nation. One would think with shallow rocky soil here in NY we would have some advantage, but it doesn't look that way.
I never thought of a 4230 as little, but the spreader does make it appear so!

Bill...sorry I haven't replied to your posts before but I sure appreciate your pictures. I was spreading manure of a different kind today (see "Todays project" post) but didn't take any pics....probably a good idea. The thing I like about your photos is the fact that they are "everyday" in their content. I have no problem with special days photos,we all have boxes of them, but the everday pics give a lot more insight into our lives and will be quite informative for generations to come. Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing. Oh yes, scratch Wrigleys ears for me, Bob

Thanks for the pictures Bill! Always enjoy them.
You have probably gotten this question before but what type of dog is Wrigley?
Thanks,
Drake
Oh and give Wrigley a scratch behind the ears from me also.

Looks like a lot of manure. That explains some of the good yields of crops you get but you have to pour the ferttlizer on to make it all work. Remember that job when I was a kid. Pitchfork in hand was a loader. I really enjoy all of your pictures. It is nice to see a well run operation,

You know bill, i got to tell yeah, i love your pictures and every time i look for wringley in the cab. Keep em comin. Sure does brighten my day. Thanks. Toby.

Nice looking equipment .How many head you got running around there to make all that stuff.I'd call it something else ,but to each his own.I have some barn cleaning and hauling to do aswell ,but it requires a fork in hand and a lot of back breaking work.Little soft here to get the spreader in the feild.Anyways thanks for the pictures always a joy.

From the looks of the steam it must be coldern'sh!t

My spreading operation is loading it in a container on the 3pt and dumping in the neighbor's greenhouse or on one of the farmer's piles. Mine's not so messy either. Have fun. And try not to disturb the dog so much.

Great pictures of a job that needs to get done also. And the dog picture, well that one melts the heart. Thanks for sharing a day out of your life

So, does Wrigley climb up by himself, or does he need some 'encouragment'? My dog does not like to jump into anything-he will get in on the floor of the truck, then get on the seat. If he is asked to jump up onto the seat, it ain't happening! Just curious. Greg

Great pictures as always, BBBUUUTTT everyone else is posting warm weather pictures! Guess you did caption it as Hard At Work though LOL

Looks like you have a new unit in the fleet - what's that make: 2 for every day of the week?

Hurry up and get done so you can come to Peoria Saturday!
