ford 600 tractor

I have a problem with my 600. I was having trouble getting it started even with starting fluid. I put new plugs, a new set of points and a condenser and it started right up and it ran good and I went ahead and done what I needed to do and the next time I tried to start it I believe it was the same day and would not start again. Does anyone have any idea what the problem is. I thought somthing might be killing the condenser but I don't know.Gifford

First thing to do would be to check for spark at the plugs.

If NO spark at the plugs, check primary voltage at the distributor's primary terminal with points open and with points closed and post back.

I know have fire on the priary terminal no fire on the plugs but I haven't checked with the points closed. I will check the points open and closed tomorrow. Thanks!

If the points are dirty or not closing, you will see power at the distributor's primary terminal even with the points "closed".

If the pass-though insulator in the distributor housing is shorted (COMMON on these) you will see NO voltage on the distributor's primary terminal even with the points OPEN.

So you can open and close the points by hand and get a spark at the points??? If yes then next check the coil wire, as in open and close the points by hand with the coil wire close to the engine block. You should get a blue/white spark for that wire that will jump a 1/4 inch gap. If the is there then you may have a bad cap and or rotor. Seen rotors go bad and also the way this weather has been this year and being so wet an cracked cap will do that. There is a way of testing the cap but you will only do it once and cause me if you do it. With the key on hold the cap with one hand and spin the engine. If the cap is cracked you will jump because you will get zap-u-troned big time
