I am looking at a 1850 oliver tractor chasis no engine at all or components pertaining to the engine. My question is what would a fair price be and how hard of a time is it going to be to find a gas burner to put in it ?? Tractor is good and straight with good wheels ,wide front ,power steering ,everything looks to be there except the engine .
Any ideas or guesses would be great !!

Instead of a gas, you could put a Cummins in there. Kits are available, but you need to find the bellhousing.

Fair price is hard to say. Depends on the condition of the tires. As far as an engine, that was a 310. Kinda hard to come by. Not rare, but pullers want them and there just aren't all that many out there to begin with. I'm assuming it was a gas tractor to start with? If it was a diesel,it had a different frame and the 310 gas won't fit into it.
I guess if I could find one and the tires were real good,I'd go $1000-1200 for it,but then I've got several Olivers and can use the parts eventually.

I know that. He's talking about putting a gas motor in it. That was a 310 Waukesha in the 1850s.

Just did some checking you all are right it was a diesel engine before are they very hard to come by ???

The engine? No. It's a 354 Perkins and they were used in about a dozen different combine models by White and Massey. Now for the parts to install it,that's another story. If you don't have the old engine for all the parts that have to be changed to put the combine engine in the tractor,it won't work. About the only thing you DON'T need from the original tractor engine is the block, head, injectors, injector pump and one side cover. You need the flywheel, clutch, pressure plate, pan, front cover, oil pump plumbing, front pulley, water pump, manifolds, rear side cover, tappet cover, oil cooler, oil filter base, front motor mount, injector lines, throttle plate and linkage, probably more, just can't think of all of it right now.

Sure wish that was so. I have three 1850 gasers that would down a 43 gallon tank twice in a good day when I was farming.
