The starter on my '70 Ollie got pretty loud so I took it apart to replace bearings. Turns out they are bronze bushings in blind holes. I suppose there is a special tool for getting them out, or do you just split them with a chisel?

There is a blind hole bushing/bearing puller made. The big tool trucks like Snap-on, Mac, Cornwell, etc will have them. Maybe even check at NAPA parts stores also. they are not cheap but better than a chisel or torch.

fill the hole with grease then drive a close fitting (like the original shaft) drift into the hole full of grease and it should drive the bushing up.

ya, just fill the hole with grease and use a shaft and hit it and the bushing comes out.same thing with pilot bushings on chev engines, just fill with grease and use the pilot shaft and the bushing pops out.
