OT- Arthritis question

Ok guys, I'll finally admit it I'm finally starting to feel my age.....but don't tell anyone outside of here as everyone I know say I at least look young for my age even though I did get a thing in the mail the other day for "seniors"...LOL. Anyway I'm going on 42 middle of Feburary, and I've had 'mild' arthritis in my neck since I was in my early 20's. When I started to really notice it several trips to a chiropractor, doing the neck exercises he told me to do to loosen the muscles, and a theraputic pillow have made the pain associated with it bearible for close to 15 years. I've finally gotten used to the neck stuff but here lately my shoulders have decided to join in the party on occasion too.

I talked to my dad earler tonight and he said he had been taking Osteo Bi-Flex for over a year and had been able to come completely off the prescription arthritis medicine he had been taking. Looking at the ingredients I see it has Glucosamine in it. I know I'm moving outside of the human element here but I used to have an older dog that I started giving a glucosamine suppliment and even she acted like she felt better after taking the stuff for several weaks.

That said given Dad's glowing recommendation, and the completely unpredudical opinion of an old dog, I'm planning to give it a try and see how it works for me. That leads me to my question for ya'll, and that is how do you guys deal with the arthritis? Beyond the suppliment and/or simply enduring the pain are there any home remedies, etc out there I should know about, just in case? I've heard the one about being bee stung working and worse comes to worse I'm willing to give that a try if need be...but I really don't want to go there except as a matter of last resort. So, any other suggestions for me to try????
Osteo BiFlex

Go to a Doctor who specializes in Arthritis and get the correct meds for you. There are lots of different kinds of Arthritis and different meds for each.
I have RA and i take Sulandac for it. Also move to a dry climate will help loads.

PS forget the phony Bee stings and other stuff they are only there to steal what money you have.

Glucosamine sulfate helps my knees. If you are seeing a lot of your hair caught in the shower drain, you may want to try sarsparilla capsules along with natural vitamin E.

You can buy condroitin sulfate and glucosimine supplements at most pharmacies. They work for a while and ease the discomfort.
But it gets worse with age, as you've experienced it seems to spread. You take care of it one place and it goes somewhere else. I've kept bees for years and I know a few nuts that swear by bee venom therapy, I swear at it. Go to the doctor and get a perscription is the best way to mask the pain, but the presciption will cause stomach problems, but there's a percription for that to, and so begina a morning ritual.
Ps: The stomach perscription causes constipation, but that's OK we can give you a perscription for that. Get the idea?

I have taken Glucosamin-chondroitin for 8 or 9 years. It helps a lot. Before I started, I could only sleep about 4 hours at a time and then my back hurt so bad I'd have to get up and move around. From time to time I get to feeling good and quit taking it, but within 2 weeks, I have to have it again. I buy the cheapest generic I can find. All I can say is it works for me. Chris

Moving to Arizona was my greatest relief for the Arthritis areas i have. We are in the middle of a Rainy spell right now and my thumbs are very painful and my neck is hurting too but when the rain blows away and dry reappears relief will return, until then I will use Equate pain relief pills to help me get some relief.

I ve went through several back surgeries and a hip replacment and I m in general stoved up like a old rusty hinge . Arthiritis is in most of my joints and I m in pain for the most part 24/7 but dont let it slow me down . My wife started to get stoved up some and her Doctor told her to try Glucosamine . I figgered it could nt hurt me to try it also . We have been taking it for about 3 weeks and cant belive the change . It s hard to explane but I still have the pain but I m not stoved up like I was and can move alot easyer . Arther is set in my hands and has nt helped them much but the rest of my body is much better . We get the equate brand at walmart , it says compare to Osteo Bi-flex . The one we take is Glucosamine Chondroitin MSM with joint lubricant , It s worth a try , My wife is nt stoved up at all any more , hoping it will start working on my hands .

i have the same problem it would get so bad i couldnt move my neck and my hands would go numb start pinching my nerve only bone cracker could help started taking those pills and felt alot better have not had to see bone cracker since

Fortunately I'm only sixty so I don't have the problems that you seem to have. I do have my share of problems with joints due to various mishaps with skis, dirt bikes, and snowmobiles over the years. I've been taking glucosamine Chondroitin for about ten years now, and recently stepped it up on the advice of the orthopedic doctor. He told me that it should help my knee that mysteriously lost it's cartilage. Yesterday I picked up fish oil which gives you EPA and DHA. There was a big deal on this in the news two days ago. Recent research has shown that taking it enables your body to accomplish a lot more muscle and tendon repair work than it can without it.That's for me!!! I have had both of my shoulders repaired for torn rotator cuffs and shredded tendons.A lot of people I know have had that, and they didn't ride dirt bikes or snowmobiles. Chances are you are headed in that direction.

I start feeling rusty in the hands, knees and feet quite a bit. First couple steps getting out of bed look like smeone taking the first steps after a couple years in a wheelchair. Had a tub of glucosamine we had for an old horse and tried it on myself, don't know if it was a cure cause I got tired of taking it but was feeling a little better. What works for me is vinegar. I slug about a double shot every other day and just feel overall better. I'm one of them "gotta know" guys, so will stop the V for a while and usually in about 3 weeks the stuff is back again. Couple more slugs, and things get better. Maybe it's just me.

Emu Oil

I'm serious. For the short time I raised ostrich, actually saw the results of the oils from rending the fat on some ratites. The Dallas Cowboys used emu oil in their training room....don't know about now.....that was back in the late 90s.

Get one of those cylindrical vibrating pillows ...

Glucosamine Sulfate - Wal-Mart - one in the morning and one at night!!!!! Or any place you prefer to buy it!!! I buy it in the 200 Capsule Containers!!!
63 and still working a 3rd shift job!!!

Trouble sleeping - buy Melatonin (3 mg) Wal-Mart or your place of preference - as you eat your last meal of the day take 1 or 2 based on you and sleep good. It will not knock you out but if you do wake up for any reason (bathroom/phone/etc.)you will go back to sleep!!!

The Cocaine Cowboys also use a humungous amount of the majik white powder, so it would be hard to say whether your emu oil was the majik elixer you make it out to be.

It would be extremely interesting to know just how much money the a$$hole jones spends to keep the Dallas Drug Monkeys supplied with drugs, and to keep the criminal b@stards out of jail.

One of my mentors gave me some really good advice about alternative therapies and medicines.... Timing has a lot to do with the outcome of the rain dance....

As to what works for me, Indomethicin (prescription NSAID) to take the edge off and regular visits to a physical therapist to keep me on an updated home wellness program. His philosophy, and mine is to eat a balanced diet, with low amounts of processed stuff, NO high fructose corn syrup, and drink at least a 1/2 gallon of water a day with NO additives.

I think your doctor was right with the exercises. My shoulders have ached like a toothache for several years. Real tough at night to lay on,but I can't sleep on my back either because I stop breathing. At 54 I've been going downhill fast,so for the heck of it,since we finally have an empty bedroom,I decided I was going to start to workout a little. I hadn't lifted weights since highschool, but my sons weight bench and a few weights were still here from his football days,so I sat that up in the empty bedroom. Didn't think with my shoulders as bad as they were that I could even lift, but I've been going for reps without a whole lot of weight and it's made a huge difference already after just two and a half weeks. Doing arm curls up from the side of the bench seems to be helping the most. My shoulders still squeek and grind, but the pain is pretty much gone. I can get right to sleep and stay asleep on either side now.

When I broke my wrist a year ago, the orthopedic surgeon suggested I get blue emu oil (its actually a creme) at WalMart. There are other ingredients included in the creme, so I can"t say that it was the emu oil. The creme does relieve pain.

For some reason, your skin just sucks up the emu oil. I suspect it is really just a "vehicle" for the other ingredients to get to the affected area.

One of the ingredients in blue emu oil is msm. MSM is credited with pain relieving properties.

I have used the blue emu oil for "aches" and have found it very effective.

BTW, it does not turn your skin blue.

I have a sore lump in my right hand. Went to the doc & they x-rayed it. Yes, looks like artritis. Never did anything for it. I now take a cup of warm water with honey and cinnamon & it seems to help. Google artritis honey cinnamon & read all about it.

Ok, having such discomfort, Osteobiflex helps a lot of people but mostly those with osteo-arthiritis( OA)associated with joint deteriation.I had a severe case of that due to taking prednasone in the 70's for other problems. Rhuematoid arthritis( RA) can be controlled with dietary and over the counter method, vinegar, cinnamon and honey mixture and even ibuprofen. Also aspirin is good but can do a lot of damage if not monitored closely. I have 2 titanium knees and two titanium shoulders and have RA in my hands but I am now 78. Take care of yourself now.

Glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate are the same thing. One is the raw state and the other is the processed state. Most supplements to help joints contain one or both. Results as far as effectiveness vary.

If you have arthritis, make sure you get one that has msm. MSM has properties that relieve inflammation. Again, individual results may vary.

Compared to the cost and side effects of prescription drugs, I would definitely give the glucosamine/chondroitin sulfate + msm a try.

I also recommend Blue Emu Oil. Its actually a creme and can be found at most WalMarts with the Ben-Gay and & Icy Hot. It also has msm in it. My orthopedic surgeon recommended it when I broke my wrist. James and I have had success with it when applied to joints that are achy. It will not turn your skin blue.

Do yourself a favor, stay off the heavy drugs. Dr's turned my brother and mother into junkies. Some drugs, once you are on them, you are on them for life. I live with the pain. Check out the drugs on line before you use them.

I usually don"t tell anyone, but I ended up using the stuff TSC sells for horses. Seems to help. I also try to follow the typical alternative medical advice like this online doctor gives.

If it can fix a thousand pound horse, oughta do ok on a 200 pound man...

We have very little people stuff on the place but I have had tetanus and antibiotic shots that we have for the animals. We try to use no drugs or anything not natural. Have also found that the active ingredient in a lot of animal medicine is the same as for human. Also, the absorbine gel for horses in the best smelling stuff I've found for sore muscles.

Years ago while working a hive, I got stung about 8 times or so and all my arthritis pains went away within 2 weeks...prior to that it would take me twenty minutes or so in the heat of the day, slinging bales on a wagon, before my shoulder pain came down to a level I could tolerate. Some days I had to walk with a cane..all when I was 39 or so..ever since I have been pretty good..starting to get some pain back after 18 years or so..maybe time to get some more hives..

Nobody mentioned concentrated cherry juice. It has helped my upper body a lot. I get it from MI, leelanaufruit.com. I mix it with walmart diet twist-up, a tablespoon twice a day.
