John Deere oil change on all systems

I have a JD 520 that runs good and I would like to change all the fluids in this tractor so I do not burn something up.
First I need to know what type of fluid is needed for each system and how to check all the fluid levels. I do have an IT manual for this tractor but this information is not included. They do mention capacities like 4 1/2 gallons for the cooling system,7 quarts crankcase oil, 16 quarts for transmission and differential, 4 quarts for thr powershaft clutch (what is this?, 10 quarts for the powr-trol (what is this?), 1 quart for the first reduction gear cover, and 5 quarts for the power steering. There is no directions on how to check these levels.
I am confused.
I thought the power steering fluid was supplied by the transmission. Where is the power steering reservoir?
Is the first reduction gear oil included in the engine oil or transmission fluid?
There is no mention of the oil capacity of the final drive.
I need to knowhow to check each reservoir and what type of fluid to use.

I&T is a service manual. The Operator manual is the basic owners manual that covers lube, controls, features, maintenance, etc.
 
Not sure about the others, but the power steering fluid is held in the steering shaft column at the front of the tractor. There should be a hole in the front sheet metal with a big plug with a large groove. Use a flat crowbar (wonderbar) to unscrew it and there is a dipstick on it. To drain it you have to take the front sheet metal off.

Thanks for telling me about the powersteering dip stick. I should be able to take care of the power steering fluid now.
I looked at my IT manual again and it does show a dip stick in one of the exploded views. However it is not labeled.

I will probably purchase this manual. My 80 page IT service manual is not what I need. I have found the John Deere 520 manuals for this tractor but I am not sure I wanted to spend $300 for them.
The 520 doesn't seem to be the most popular John Deere model out there. Seems like the 620, 630,720, and 730 are more popular.
 
Yup, service manual is how to take the thing appaer & reassembe.

Owners manual is how to operate & do rountine fluid changes, grease, etc. Nice to have both.

There were 9029 520s and 9814 530s vs 15048 620s and 14381 630s. It depends on what was needed in your area, also.. Where I live there were very few Bs, 50s, 520s or 530s. I could see a sea of green around us. Scads of As, Gs, Rs, 60s, 620s, 630s. And no Ford Ns at all. NONE. Heavy clay soil, rolling hills, big loads of hay to be pulled and then pushed up steep barn hills. Heavy loads of corn. Big threshing machines to power up. That's why. Now, I see either dull red or Steiger green. Only JD green is seen on lawns. I'm threatening to change that one of these days. I like JDs.

Powr-Trol is your hydraulics on the back of the tractor. The transmission/diff/final-drive is one giant cavity.

The shared oil systems came out in the New Generation (3010/4010) tractors, so you didn't need to drain and fill a half-dozen different places. My father talks about how they thought it was the greatest thing at the time.
 
So the powr-control is the hydraulics. Sometimes the terminology confuses me. Thanks, I know this level can be measured by the dip stick.

What is type of fluid do I install where the PTO comes out the rear of the tractor? It doesn't have a dip stick but here is a plug on top to add oil. How do I know if it is high or low?
 
I called the number and they do have an operators manual for me. This 1-800 522-7448 number is a great resource. OMR2074 (116 pages) is for serial number 5208099 and up. Since my 520 is an earlier model JD did have a different operators manual for this tractor OMR2051 (100 pages).
