in relation to philipd's pickup wagon

Bunch of them around here used for anything from what they are meant for to manure (horse mostly) and firewood wagons. A kind of matching piece was (best translation) a hay/straw blower used to blow the stuff into lofts with about 18 inch ductwork. Neighbor's barn is 5 levels (including basement) when the place was working, the top 2 were full of hay/straw. Just thought I'd share.

Brings a question to mind also.
Can you feed a small square baler and get halfway decent bales without actually driving across the field??

Dave

Grandpa used to re-bale straw from a pile of broken bales. He always said the bales were better (tighter)than the ones that came out of the field.

I tried it once...tried baling corn shucks from a pile that came from a MM cornsheller. Not much luck in making a good tight bale.

Dave, When I was in high school, I helped a farmer clean out his hay loft. His barn had a drivethrough, and he pulled the tractor and baler right in the barn, and we pitched the hay down onto the baler. It got so deep that the baler was completely covered, and you could see the hay move when the knotters tied. I thought he was crazy, but he was the boss. . .

I can't remember how many bales we made, but was probably a couple hundred.

Thanks for the extra information! We used to clean the loft out every summer before re-filling and it got re-baled and put right back in.Works great, and they are heavier, quite abit heavier actually than regular bales. The stuff is still somwwhat compressed and it feeds much slower because it's being forked in instead of chugging along a windrow.

I've done a lot of those and you had to compress those bales tight and weighed a ton. I know one thing when you broke one open they exploded. I always liked trying to get the mice nests thrown in or a black snake or two. Kind of a kid thing.:->
