Just wondering who goes on them and what's the biggest one you have been on.I'm thinking about trying to get one going in my home town.Is there any fun things that could be a good activity to make it fun an entertaining. Also thinking of a plow day as well just like to get people more involved with tractors.Any thoughts?

Our local tractor club goes to several in the area. Nice idea to stop by the nursing home afterwards and bring the parade to those who can"t get out. Some come outside to get their picture taken, standing next to ones like they had. They get even more fun out of it than we do. Set it up with the activity director at the home.

3 or 4 local parades(within 40 miles) mostly around the 4th of July. Average parade route is at 5 miles or so. Most are in rural communities where to patriotic spirit is alive and well. Very enjoyable.

Blaine you need to join the local tractor club (Inland Empire Steam and Gas Buffs). They schedule a couple tractor rides each year. Membership also allows you to become a member of EDGETA which provides $1M personal liability insurance when participating in club activities. It is $10 dues for the club and another $8 for EDGETA. Email me for contact info. I also am setting up a plow day for the East Valley School District School Farm if you are interested. That is tentatively scheduled for March 13th.

Plow days can be fun. I started one in '07 with 8 tractors. Then 17 in '08, then 35 in '09. Might have over 50 for this yr.

Total of 175 showed up to watch last yr. Local 4-H club served the food and drinks and made over $400.00.

Rented 2 porta potties. Had 2 tractors pulling people movers and we'll need 3-4 for this yr.

We let in only tractors made in 1959 or before; no big modern stuff allowed. Some tractors with steel wheels show up.

All motors shut off at noon so kids from 8 t0 80 can look, touch and talk about all the old iron.

A flying farmer flew overhead and a passenger took pics. Local camera guy made a 28 minute video of whole thing; we have sold over 70 DVDs so far at $10.00 each and donated it to local food pantries.

We don't allow any hotrodding, fender riding or hitch riding. I make sure we run a tight ship so no one gets hurt, least of all a spectator.

Cardinal rule is to have FUN with old iron. We have drivers from 18 to 80; some kids driving grandpa's old tractor and that makes it special.

This event always makes the front page of our local newspaper (with a nice picture). It's the talk of the area.

We have a fall festival at our fire hall with a tractor ride the day before we get sponcers and have alunch we go about 14 miles we had 55 in the parade last year any size any color just pay entry fee and stay in line then after the ride the tractors stay at the fire hall parking lot over night with security and the people come sunday for a church service at the fire hall then all kinds of food and other hit and mis engines ect make around 3500 for th fire department in a 2 day event.

I'm a member of the club but have a lot of other stuff going on so I am not real active either. I'm a bit younger than most also, so I can see where you are coming from. Also there seems to be more emphasis on the little engines and not the tractors and equipment that goes with them. I usually try to get in on the tractor rides, tho. The plow day is my deal, as I am on the board for the Farm to School program that is just getting started here. I think it would be a good way to attract some attention to what we are doing by having a "ground breaking" with some old iron...so I am spreading the word to get some more tractor guys to show up. I don't plan on it being a tractor club event, but figured that would be a good place to get some participants. You are more than welcome to bring a plow, or disc or drag...drop me a line, my email is open.
