How much weight?

How much weight would I need on the rear tires of my 5020 John Deere when pulling a disk moderately hard, in 4th gear, in a plowed field?

I now have 30.5x32 rear tires and 1500 lb weights inside each wheel. I would guess I'm good to go.

Have no weights on the front. Need them?

It would depend on disk size, field conditions, soil type, etc... If you think you have enough weight you could try it and see. If you get wheel slippage, you could put water in the tires.

115lb to 145lb per HP with 75% on the rear axle and working speeds of 3-5mph.
The 5010 and 5020 were a little heavy but stout for the HP levels.
In an ideal world 20,000lb max.
Remember that carrying more ballast than required just wastes fuel hauling the extra weight around. More drivetrain wear, tire wear and soil compaction too.

15,000 lbs should be plenty.I have pulled a 21 Krause ft disk with several different tractors each weighing 13-14,000 lbs.Our soil pulls pretty easy.
