was at a freinds place today. hes having problems with his (im guessing here) about 98 chev gas pickup. has trouble starting and if does start can rev in park but when put in gear hesitates and sort of sounds like its missing. he has changed inline fuel filter and it did start when i was there, took off air filter above carb or throttle body and inside are what i think are some type of injectors plastic units about inch round with 2 small tubes to each im quessing some sort of TB injectors. could these be causing problem. sorry short on details more info later.know theres alot of knowledge out there. any ideas whats wrong. thank guys.

If when looking down the throttle body there are visible injectors then the truck is 1995 or older. That should help when trying to look on the internet for a diagnosis.

1996 to present there would only be a throttle blade visible.

My '96 chevy pu was doing REALLY weird things 4 years ago. It would die, run rough, showed no codes, etc. Mine has 2 postive battery cables. One to the fuse box on the drivers side fender well under the hood. The other goes directly to the starter. Being a side post battery, this is a problem waiting to happen. Figured out that my cable to the fuse box was not making connection, therefore nothing in that box was getting power. If I wiggled the cable, it would be fine, for awhile! Replaced that cable and have had no more troubles. Could be a whole list of things-get a scanner to read the codes first. If no codes, you are on your own, I guess! Greg

thanks for info. ya saw injectors plain at top of carb. could these be causing problem. i told him to put some type injector cleaner in fuel. wheres best place online to find or diagnose problem thanks again.

njectors receive on-time signals from the engine control computer which calculates such time based on several variables, such as coolant temperature, vacuum, air pressure, OX sensor, and more. Point is that there are many possibilities beyond the injectors them selves. The last one I worked on that wouldn't run was a '92 and with the aid of the diagnostic code reader, I replaced the water temp sensor & fixed it.

see if you can borrow a fuel pressure gauge and see what kind of pressure the fuel pump has. should be some where around 40-60 psi, but check with a manual to be sure. its not uncommon for the pump in the tank to start going bad, and causing problems. if the fuel pressure is ok, scan it and see whats going on before you start throwing parts at it. usually the gas injectors (throttle bodys) dont give a whole lot of problems.

Time to put a scanner on there and find out what is going wrong. Guessing and throwing parts at an issue costs much.
Could be as simple as a worn tps.

fast feed back thanks. hes talking about taking it to shop tommorow. though id post here and see what came up. hes coming for supper tonight. nice to have some idea befor getting to shop. dont really have a "trusted shop" around here yet

thanks rocko

He needs to use a scan tool to check the codes from the PCM.I just had a truck in doing the same thing. It had a bad TPS."THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR"

Take a timing light connected to a coil wire, if the truck has one, or a spark plug and shot the injector while the engine is running. You can see if they are firing.

The fuel pump is in the tank. The fuel pressure for that style of throttle body is 8 to 13 psi. To check the pressure, install a prressure gage in line at the back of the throttle body. You need a scan tool, just likes the others have said.
