dau's car headlights don't work . think i have it narrowed down to the microprocessor in the instrument cluster according to the manual . need to know what it looks like and if it can be replaced . i have the insturment cluster removed . thanks bill

That would be the first one I seen go bad.Do the daytime running lamps work? High/low beam?

daylight running lights don't work . don't have either high or low low beams . daylight runing lights have not worked for about a year . i think it would be helpful if the wiring diagram in the chilton manual i have showed the internal connections for the microprocessor . the diagram only shows power in through the daylight running relay to the drl control (microprocessor) and lo beam input and also to hi beam input .

Bill: The daytime running lights will only work when the engine is running and not in park. Have you checked the daytime running light relay in the fuse box? The headlight light switch is a ground switch, which when headlights are on the switch closes the to ground. The GM wiring diagram does not show internal workings of the instrument cluster. Hope this helps

thanks . yes that helps . yes i see the light switch is a ground switch . earlier today i checked continunity from the bulb socket back throuh the light switch and got a half scale reading on my analog meter on rx1 . don't know why half scale reading should have been full scale i would think . will check again tomorrow .with the insturment cluster out i shouldn't have any reading through it . the light switch was previously replaced last year for this problem .

Check the forward light wire harness. There are two splices in it. One, on a blue wire is likely corroded where it passes under the battery. Check the whole harness along the drivers side fender.

That is most likely where the problem is, have fixed many of them.
