I just got back from buying a snow blower from a fellow. He had a 1969 Sears Suburban 12 lawn mower that he bought new and it was all original paint and all. This thing looked just like new ! I can hardly believe it. Not hardly even a scratch.
I try to take care of my stuff ,but this thing was in unbelievable condition.
Wouldn't need to do all this restoring if people took better care of things.

My father has the same tractor, excellent shape. His is blue with a white hood. Tecumseh engine.

That Tecumseh HH-100 engine is a good solid unit. I have 2 from 1967 still running. One is 100% original and the 2nd was rebuilt 2 years ago. I still have less than 10 hours on the new one. It should last another 40 years!

isnt it interesting the way they were built then compared to a sears riding lawnmower of today? was there any plastic on the 1969 model? just kidding

Yeah there good old engines. I also nave a HH160 16HP OHV cast iron one on a Sears. My JD 112 garden tractor also has a 10hp tecumseh.

A-MEN to that brother!!!!Been preaching that senerio for years. Seems it don't bother people from destroying stuff by neglect.IMO they are just to LAZY and cheap. Just my .2c worth.

My wife's uncle was like that with his tools and equipment. It wasn't enough to just get it in out of the weather - he wiped it all down after each use and covered it up with a blanket! Said a tarp was liable to scratch it!!??

Of course, he had other peculiarities too - he whitewashed every tree trunk in the yard, and even painted the sidewalk and house foundation. The sidewalk was grey, with a wide green stripe up the middle. If something slowed down a little - he painted it. And the yard grass was always cut pritnear short as a golf green. I don't know how he had time to get any farming done.

But then - I never once saw him in the coffee shop. . .

I admired him - he was a direct opposite of me.

I had an old neighbor like that. On his farm auction after he died, unblievable. Old stuff but absolutly imaculate. every winter he took every wheel off and repacked it on his entire line of machinery. Every evening wiped everything down. Waxed every thing every summer. It showed on the sale. Really top prices.
