If I Take My Case LA To A Tractor Ride...

...or my John Deere 60, how many miles per gallon could I expect? I know its a tuff question but I think somebody may have some figures for just about any tractor.

How long is the ride?

I've driven my "L" to a few parades and one day shows that were about 12 miles away. I've done the round trip, plus all the playing while there, and had about half of a tank or better left.

Nebraska tests says 2.5 gal/hr at 27.9 hp. 11mph max speed. 4.4 mpg. 2.0 at 19.1 hp 11 mph max speed 5.5 mpg 40.2 hp at 3.8 gal/hr at 11mph max. 2.9 mpg

Case LA says 31.7 hp at 3.3 gal/hr at 10 mph. 3 mpg 2.3 gal/hr at 14.2 hp at 10mph. 4.3 mpg 40.5 hp at 3.7 gal/hr at 10 mph. 2.7 mpg

Gives you an idea of what to expect at different engine loads all at 11/10 mph.

I'd figure it this way, if you can go out and plow all day on a tnak of gas, you should be able tomake any tractor ride to the end. Ours is about 35 miles and I can go out and plow a half day when I get back without refueling.

I have both L and LA Cases and have used them over many years. I do not use them for serious field work now because they use too much fuel.

LA has a road gear 10 to 12 mph. Top speed on L is about 4 mph.

LA in road gear, just pulling itself is a very light load and will use about 2 gal per hour. You will easily do your tractor ride on a tank of fuel.

LA in heavy field work will use 4 to 5 gal per hour

I have a 60 and took it on a tractor ride once and just for fun did the "mpg" check. I think it figured out to somewhere between 8 and 9 miles per gallon. The tractor spent most of it's time about half throttle in road gear as the ride was not trememdously fast. I also had a 70 gas in the same ride and being it's a heavier tractor it's "mileage" was about half a mile less. It operated most of the time wide open in fifth gear as that was about the right speed to keep up with. Hope this helps. Mike

why? L/LA- same displacement and rpm, most L's have La heads, manifolds and carbs. I doubt that an L will run any cheaper. As for what tractor, I would take the Case but I prefer them over jd. Open the load jet and run it on E-85. $.70 a gal cheaper than gas around here.

My 1945 LA has no 4th gear because it came out on steel built during the big war. It will burn a lot more fuel than one with 5th gear. With the Rpm raised to 1600 I can go about 4 to 5 MPH.
I once drove it home from my friends house about 15 miles away took around 4 hours stopping in town to fill the 30 gallon tank. got home with about half a tank. Didn't do that again.
I have a 48 with 4th gear and someday I hope to add it to my 45.
