A police motorcycle cop stops a driver for running a red light. The guy is a real jerk and comes running back to the officer demanding to know why he is being harassed! So the officer calmly tells him of the red light violation. The motorist instantly goes on a tirade, questioning the officer's ancestry,s3xual orientation, etc., in rather explicit terms. The tirade goes on without the officer saying anything.
When he gets done with writing the ticket he puts an "AH" in the lower right corner of the narrative portion of the ticket. He then hands it to the 'violator' for his signature. The guy signs the ticket angrily, and when presented with his copy points to the "AH" and demands to know what it stands for. The officer says, "That's so when we go to court, I'll remember that you're an a**hole!" Two months later they're in court. The 'violator' has such a bad driving record he is about to lose his license and has hired a lawyer to represent him. On the stand the officer testifies to seeing the man run the red light. Under cross examination the defense attorney asks; "Officer is this a reasonable facsimile of the ticket you issued my client?" Officer responds, "Yes, sir, that is the defendant's copy, his signature and mine, same number at the top. Lawyer: "Officer, is there any particular marking or notation on this ticket you don't normally make?" "Yes, sir, in the lower right corner of the narrative there is an "AH," underlined." "What does the "AH" stand for, officer?" "Aggressive and hostile, Sir." "Aggressive and hostile?" "Yes, Sir? "Officer, are you sure it doesn't stand for A**hole?" "Well, sir, you know your client better than I do!"

I agree but every now and then there is a young one that has not been out there very long, wanting to skip over all ranks and jump to the top, out to prove themselves. They are the type of people that are NEVER wrong, never apologize (why would they do that, they are never wrong) and no matter what you do, say, don't do, don't say, your ticket was already written before they even went on duty that day.
They have a mental quota, they go back and brag to the ones that will listen.
But then there are the more mature ones that will discuss the citation with you, and will give you only a warning if your driving record is good, along with your attitude.
Nothing is ever perfect.

Hello 730: I agree with your views. Humans are all shades from good to real bad. Two years ago the sheriff in the county where my brother lived called one morning and when I answered he asked my name and when I stated my full name as he requested he quickly and loudly read to me the death report he had filed about my brothers sudden death as if he didn't give a (blank) and was tired of having to notify next of kin which was a stupid part of being such a high ranking officer. I was almost out of breath at his rude manner. Speachless almost. Thank God there is a church a short walk from my house. I think of this treatment every time I see their big funerals they have for another cop. It's a "WE vs Them" attitude? Bad thing for America. There are all kinds... ag

I can tell you delivering that kind of news is no easier for most cops than those receiving it.
Yup cops get jaded, but for most its that or eat their gun. Wlak a mile in the other guys shoes before making judgments

Ag, I'm sorry for your loss and the way you were notified.

Years ago, when I was in high school, I was coming home late and came upon a fatal accident. I recognized the car and stopped. The state cop could see that I knew the man who was killed. He asked me to accompany him to notify his family. We went to the home, and he made sure the widow had someone else there to comfort her, then as gently as possible, broke the sad news to her. That cop held this crying widow in his arms, with tears running down his face, doing all he could to comfort her. When we finally left and were back in his car, he turned to me and said, "Son, if there was ever anything to make you NOT want to be a cop, this is it."

I don't know what he could have done to make her situation any more bearable.

On the other side of the coin - a local lady got a phone call one morning asking what funeral home was going to pick up her son's body. He'd been killed in a car wreck a couple hours earlier.

I think some folks are naturally cruel.

I"ve been in public service now going on 23 years. I does not ever get easy to tell someone that one of there family has died. BTDT too many times. I always print out all of the information I tell them because after the shock of it they sometimes wonder what the details were. Usually by when we knock on the door they already think the worst. This job is composed of dealing with the worst people in the world. But on the other side of the coin, it is being able to help the best people in this world when they are in need. Just my 2 cents worth. About ready to retire soon but would not trade it for any other profession.

Hi Paul: Your last comment was what I was trying to get across to earlier poster.. There are many people who have no feeling for others at all yet they function well in life because they know how to ignor needless conflict and save energy for whatever they really want. When the time comes they can kill another without giving it a thought. A very big example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/My_Lai_Massacre

Probably was a few country boys in that along with many others. It's part of the human race. ag

"rbel" Ya gotta read the other notes also. I was agreeing with 730D by giving an example. Don't judge me untill you have better reading skills.. and also note that I already have a judge asigned to me for judgement day so your judgement isn't needed at all. ag.
