UPS ( Why ???)

Here is a new one on me. I ordered a small part for my tractor and it was sent to me UPS no signature required. UPS ships it to my local post office and post office will not deliver because it wont fit in my mail box. I now have to drive ten miles out of my way to my local post office to pick up a part that was to be delivered to my house by UPS and it took them three weeks to do this. It's so stupid it's funny and it makes you ask a one word question. ( Why ??? )

I had it happen with purolator a few years ago. After waiting over 2 weeks for a delivery which was supposed to be overnight. They kept calling to confirm I would be home, I faithfully stayed home, they never showed up. I finally went to their office and got my parcel. Can you believe they actually wanted me to pay the freight. Actually took me to small claims court. I fought back they never got a dime.

What address was on the box?

In our case it's always a confusion from the shipper about "bill to" and "ship to" addresses. Like you, we use a PO box for "bill to", unfortunately sometimes the shipper uses the wrong address. Solution for us was to get UPS to eliminate our PO box address from their computer system. That wasn't easy, took several attempts. Now when they get a box with our PO Box address, the computer knows to ignore that and send it to a street address.

Slightly more confusing for UPS is that we don't encourage their trucks to come up here. Since well before Christmas our long driveway hasn't been passable for them. We get delivery at the nearest country store. If everything works right.

Sometimes it's a challenge.

Its my understanding that UPS has struck a deal with the post office to deliver packages in areas where they don't have high delivery traffic. That may be the case here.
That being said the post office delivers to me and doesn't seem to be restricted by size as they just hang it on the box or set it on the ground.
Lets face it. They are both struggling and will do about anything to keep going.

Like the other guy said use a physical address not a postal and they would be kind of beat.

My wife sells Avon products and gets an order from them every 2 weeks VIA UPS. She tracks it on line. when it says delivered, sometimes we don't get it. She sends me to check and sure enough, it was dropped off at of one of the neighbors. Good thing thing is we only have a few neighbors and their good people.

yes they do do this at time drop items off at postoffice to be delivered, not uncommon at all but not to frequent,as far as po not putting in the box that a call for the post master or carrier as to wether to leave or not, here we usually hang it on side of box or puti it between the doors of home, better yet if you do this on regular basis let your po carrier now you have a box by shed or someplace we can leave pkgs that don"t fit in box. main reason they don"t get left outside your box is dogs. would you been happy if you found it on front step torn up or in the backyrd next spring. that you have to see both sides.rural carrier here almost 20years

Here if it wont fit in the mailbox, the letter carrier drives up the driveway, rings the door bell and leaves the package on the ground by the door.

Ideally.

For the past 15 years we've frequently gotten UPS shipments with a PO Box address. Only now, we don't get delivery to the PO Box.

I was surprised to learn last fall that UPS drivers are required to put the box on the doorstep. That our 1/2 mile driveway was not a consideration. Don't know as they'd enjoy the ice, so we continue to get delivery to a nearby country store. My other choice was a box at the bottom of the driveway with a combination lock. Combination available from either delivery service's computer.

My UPS address is a street number. UPS will not deliver to PO Box.
My USPO address is a box number. PO does not deliver here, or in most new towns.
Some E-bays sellers never tell how they ship.
If the local Post mistress did not know my name, I would be SOL.
She tells me that PO has a contract with UPS, like some here said.

must be different delivery pratice in different parts of the country, here we get ups almost daily, delivered to a mile marker number on a interstate hiway as well as a company name ,there good about getting the stuff to us and it its too heavy and on a ltl carrier instead of ups they know they are always some men and equipment availaible to help them unload, with the local post office its a gamble ive personally had things take 3 weeks to travel between towns 20 miles apart sometimes stuff doesnt show up at all

Well the answer is it is the new UPS "ground" service. The cheapest UPS service now entails delivering your package to your local USPS office. I found out the hard way when I selected the cheapest UPS shipping on a part. After waiting a few weeks, I found out the part was returned because I don"t have a mail box out in the country for the post office to deliver to. (rural area) The pricier UPS shipping, overnight, Fed-ex, all gets brought to the house in the country. So UPS is cutting corners and using the post office now, and if you have trouble getting packages through the post office, or have an address the post office does not recognize, you will never get your package after UPS delivers it the USPS.

UPS super saver ground -----> ships to your local post office -----> local post office is supposed to finish shipping to you -----> package gets returned to sender if local post office can not recognize your shipping address or can not find you.

Letter carrier won't get within a mile of our house. They only travel on public roads, and our "neighborhood" roads are all private. Mailboxes are at the nearest public road.

We have great service from U.P.S. Just last week we got our manuals delivered to our porch, with a dog biscuit for our german shepard on top of the box. Swell gesture on the drivers part. Don"t know if that is suggestions from the head office or not. Any way my hats off to U.P.S.

What KC says below is true. It's called UPS General. It's cheaper than UPS Ground. DON'T USE IT and make sure that anybody shipping to you doesn't use it! We ran into it about two months ago. My wife went right to the top at UPS and one of the bigshots told her that. It's just a "budget" UPS shipping option. NOT a GOOD option. This crap that anybody feeds you about UPS not delivering to certain rural areas is just that, crap. If it's shipped UPS Ground or anything more expensive than that, they WILL deliver it to you.

I get pretty good service from UPS and USPS. My mail carrier drops things that don't fit in the box ( the biggest I could find ) at my door all the time. If they see me near the driveway, they drive up and hand me my mail, so I don't have to walk the 350 feet to the mailbox. I have been surprised at how much weight the PO delivers now. I got stuff in the mail that must have weighed 50 lbs. The UPS guy runs up the drive, jumps outta the truck, and almost trots up to the door. Never seen a fat UPS guy!!

The ONLY shipping issue I've ever had (until now) was with FedEx. UPS is da bomb as far as I'm concerned. With 4" snow/ice last week, a UPS driver packed 5 bundles of plow moldboards from his truck to my shop door, then refused a tip.

Guess I'm just lucky; nothing but good experiences with UPS, USPS and Fed Ex. Sometimes I get 2 or 3 packages a week; if the garage door is up, they leave it in the garage on the door step. If the door's down, they leave it....in a waterproof bag.......on the front stoop. Every once-in-a-while, I'll tell the UPS guy, "You're the one's been carrying on with my wife; I've finally caught you." He always says, "Wasn't me, musta been the Fed Ex guy."

LOL, now somehow we need to tie the thread together that had complaints about USPS and those singing praises about UPS.

When do we start the thread on Fedex?

I often receive certified letters. My regular rural carrier leaves a post card in the mail box and checks off a box that indicates that no one was home. The post card is marked when and where I can pick up the letter. I have been home and seen the carrier at the box and when I got the mail out of the box that post card was there so I know he doesn't come to the house.

The sub always comes to the house with the certified mail. She has you sign and then scans the letter.

My BIL who is a rural carrier is almost a post office on wheels. Money orders, Stamps, etc. right out of the car window.

Over the yrs , I have had good luck & horrable luck w/ U P S. When they " screw up" they do it big time . Now they will not deliver to us as we are " to far out in the country" . Almost 8 miles from town & on a BT. road. And I am paying for packages to be delivered here. Yrs ago when rebuilding a J D combine, UPS dropped our parts of at 4 diff. places in town , Then called to tell me where the parts were! . Done it several times. Driver was fired over that ! Fed X or P. O. is the only way we have things shipped to us.

Don't know why they will not deliver to you in the country. We have a UPS driver down here that flies down the back roads. See him all the time with dust or mud covering his truck. And he will run over you if you stay in is way.
