OT/the place to be today

This might be the one day in my lifetime that, weatherwise,I'm glad to be in mid Michigan. We could count on one hand the number of sunny days we get in December and January, but today's one for the records. Not a cloud in the sky,no wind, temperature has soared up to around 30. PERFECT! I just hauled 3 loads of manure and never even pulled my hood up over my ears. Been thinking very seriously about pulling out one of those recliner lawn chairs and sitting out there in th sun. And no,I'm not being sarcastic. It is SUPER nice out there.

Yeah, down south in TN our high temp is 19 up from 5 or so last night. That is COLD for us. We have had a week of it! 5 of the 7 nights this week have been in the single digits.

Folks here in TN think the world is ending if we dont make it at least into the low 40's, myself included.

I grew up in Michigan and I know what you mean. Once you're used to cold a 30 degree sunny day really feels balmy. Good day for ice fishing.

Wilamayb,

I live about 40 miles due south of Naahville. It hasn't been quite as cold here as it has been at your place, but it's been in the low teens, pushing 10 degrees at night, and then warming up to the mid-20s during the day.

The good news is that there is only supposed to be one more day of this really cold stuff. One weather-guesser is calling for a high of 50 on Thursday!

My cows and horses are enduring this weather better than I am. It'll be about 12 - 15 degrees in the morning when I go out to do morning chores. I hate cold weather.

Beagle club had trouble finding rabbits to run today. Had one good race this morning and another short dash, but nothing this afternoon. They must be enjoying those geothermal temps down the holes.
But it sure was a pretty afternoon.

Well, we're just on the other side of the lake from you over here and it's pretty nice out. Got up the the mid 20's, and it's gonna be around the mid 20's to lower 30's for the next 10 days or so. Gonna be pretty nice...

The sun yesterday and today felt great!

Eastern Nebraska was not the place to be. We did have bright sun, which was sorta dazzling on all this snow. Got up to 6F. Almost 28 inches of white stuff on the ground, and five nights this week it hit -20F. And the plow came thru so can get out for the first time since wednesday. Gotta love it.

What town is near you. I have family in Pulaski and am thinking of moving there before long.

I grew up in Duck River which is half way between Columbia and Centerville. I now live in Martin which is in the NW corner. Many times it is 5 degrees colder here in the winter than it is at my parents home in SW middle TN.

Work has a way of taking you away from home. At least it was only 120 miles for me.

Yeah, Randy, but wait until the thermometer goes into free fall tonite! No clouds, and clear as a bell!

But yes, it was a banner day. Got out the snowplow and cleaned up the mess of my yard, driveway, and work areas. Put cars in position for sun to melt ice off front and rears. Also got a few other outside chores done.

Pulaski isnt very far. Somewhere around 35 miles or so from where I grew up. My folks live on the Muary-Hickman County lines. Pulaski is in Marshall County which borders Maury county.

I dont know where you live now, but you'll need steel toed shoes to live in Marshall county. The limestone sticks out of the ground everywhere in that neck of the woods.

ACSam,

I live about 10 -12 miles northwest of Columbia. Pulaski is about 25 - 30 miles southeast of Columbia.

This whole area is a mix of steep hills and rolling hills. There is some flat land, but not much. There are a few big-time row croppers, but not many. Most farming is cow/calf operations. There are a few dairies left, but not many. Our local farmers Co-Op doesn't buy commodities from farmers so there is usually some pretty expensive trucking that is needed for grain production.

Pulaski is a nice area. Small-townish and rural.

I guess you know what it is infamous for too don't you?

Just a thought, how come when it gets to 30 or so in October you are about to freeze but 30 or so in January it almost feels like a summer.

I am in IN. Born and raised here. When my Dad was close to retiring in 1982 he thought he wanted to move to florida to escape cold and snow. Well, him and Mom made a trip down there to look at a property but didn't care for it. On the way back Dad saw a sign on I65 saying Pulaski and he new what it is infamous for and decide to drive over and see it. Stopped for gas, saw a real estate office and next thing you know they went to look at and shortly after bought a small farm near Campbellsville. They stayed in the area the rest of their lives and are buried in a local cemetary. We have visited many times and made a few friends there and I think we would like it. People sure are friendly. I have seen you post several times and was curious. Maybe we will meet one day.
