Power Steering Pump

I've got a Ford 860 that the power steering pump has been leaking on for a while. It is leaking around the shaft seals. I am always sure to not let the fluid get low. It always worked great until this fall when I was cutting firewood. It began to steer really HARD!..now feels like a nonpowered rig!! I rebuilt both cylinders a few years ago so I am pretty sure it is not that. Time for a pump rebuild this winter? It must be much cheaper to rebuild than to buy a new one. What do you guys think? Any suggestions on where to buy a rebuild kit or parts online the cheapest?

I do not think that service parts are available for the early Ford PS pumps, aside from seals, O-rings and filters. Rebuild kits are definitely not available.

New, and possibly rebuilt, PS pumps that can be used with a bit of modification are once again available for mid 50s Fords.

You have changed the filter?

I didn't even realize there was a filter on it. The reservoir is built right on top of the pump. Where would the filter be?
