David Brown Hydraulic Pump

I have just purchase my second Hydraulic pump since October and had an installation question. I have a David Brown model 1200 with a Single stage Hydraulic pump. I also purchased a new coupler this time around. I was just wondering if there were torq specs for connecting the pump to the couple to prevent pump damage.

Why did the original pump fail? If there was
dirt, metal particles, from the first bad pump,
still in the system, it could cause a replacement
pump to fail quickly. If a pump fails, you"ve got to replace the hydraulic fluid/oil, and flush the
system. If the transmission/rear end is also the
hydraulic reservior any metallic particles in the
oil can eventually cause bearing or gear wear.

I am sending this response on behalf of my husband. The fluid was all drained and all filters were replaced when the pump was replaced. It failed after 2 hours of use.
From what I understand, he said that when he replaced the pump he didn"t notice that the coupler was bad as well. When he bolted the new pump on there was too much play between that and the coupler and the friction etched the shaft and damaged the key/pin on the pump.
