O/T Another Heater Question

I have a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee that the heater is not producing enough heat. Last night I back flushed the heater core and flushed out the radiator and added new antifreeze. Temp indicator in vehicle indicated engine is running around 200-210 degrees. Both heater hoses are hot. If you let the jeep warm up it is blowing warm air. The more you drive it the colder the air gets.

Sounds like the heater core is plugged. They will warm up while the engine is idling, but when the flow speeds up, there isn't enough flow to keep it warm. You might have an air bubble in there, too.
Good Luck and God Bless

I had a ford ranger that did that exact same thing, turned out it was a bad radiator cap. The heater worked great until the thermostat opened and then nothing. Replaced everything then come to find out the radiator cap would not hold pressure

would not overlook the mix flapper door for A/C vs heater air mixing.

I would agree that IF the engine really is up to temp and IF the hoses are both good and hot, it's probably a flapper door problem. If it's vacuum controlled, could be a switch/ hose / connection problem.

Just had that problem with my Sable. On one of the -10 degree mornings I turned the heat to full - and snapped off the control arm for the flapper door. Plastic gets brittle with age - especially when its cold. Had to replace the entire heater box - including the AC evaporator (built into the vent box). NOT a cheap fix and not something you want to try in your garage for the first time when you need to drive the car to work the next day.
