They promised snow, and we got it. Looks like several inches but I am just getting ready to head out. Wind is supposed to increase and gust to 30mph later today so that should be nice. Coupled with the several inches of loose snow that was on the ground allready, well, its going to be a litte interesting. Found the cattle waterer froze up here at home last night and was unable to thaw it. I will do everything possible to get that fixed today. Will put out hay at the other farm and make sure everybody is good to go since tomorrow morning is going to be interesting. Both snow blowers are backed up to their respective doors and ready to run. Need to be ready for a day of pretty limited travel. Looks like schools are all closed and will be tomorrow as well. I'll get some pics. Be carefull everybody.
Winter time fun!

Hi Bill, I agree the winter weather does get annoying at times. The storms that leave your area , eventually arrive in our area after a few day"s af travel on the east coast . cheers, Murray

National TV news said the Mississippi river was frozen over in Southern IL. 24 on North side of house here in SC.

The one thing I get tired about in the winter is the weathermen. Every little dusting is a "winter blast" and they always call for 4-8" and we get about 1-2"

10F this morning, we're supposed to get what you got later today. Oh Well, guess I better make sure there's plenty of gas in the old JD A with my snow plow.

Here in East Central we have a temp of 11 degree with a wind chill of -11 wind up to 30 MPH Have snow cover and had moisture last night. Roads are slick. Son put up panels and oprned a hay barn so the girls could get in our of it. No need streesing the old girls. They forcast tomorrow temp at -2 actual. For here that is darn cold.

13 below here,in sunny ND,its the wind that really hurts, but its suppose to get warm this weekend, above zero! Good Icelandic weather! Yea

It snow so often UP here (daily) that i don't even watch the dang weather forecast because they are generally wrong 50% of the time. Yesterday they said a clear night and clear thursday, well we've gotten close to 6" of new snow since bed last night. And noww the weatherman is saying UP to 10" by nightfall.

Weatherman is the only job you can be wrong 90% of the time and still be employed.

Yep, just got in from plowing the township roads. Fueled everything up and put back in shed to wait until this is over. Going to get windy and make a real mess before it is done.

This is in Central Illinois south of Pontiac.

Gonna stay in where it is warm and wait it out.

I miss living in N.Dakota . Not so much winter though ! lol . Iowa is not much better this year . I do remember one year we had to crawl out our upstairs window ,it snowed and blew for 3 days straight . Helping Gramps do chores one morning it was -57 ,,no wind chill . Yea,,I guess I don't miss it afterall .

Hey Bill,
Gonna pull the daughter around on the sled behind the 4 wheeler after I push a little more snow.

Wanna Go? LOL

Well im just sittin here at the house waiting i havent got to use my super a that i put a front blade on yet they say its commin mid afternoon. By the way the weather men in mid michigan lie and still get payed here too.

John, Do you go off the clock while in the shed? around here they stay on for the duration of the storm and hang out at the town shed between rounds.

(quoted from post at 08:43:01 01/07/10) Tahoe you forgot polititions. they get paid for being wrong, also.

Yeah they get paid very well for being wrong. But occasionally lose their jobs for that kind of stuff, or don't make re-election. Weatherman just keep on working for years and years being wrong daily.

Only thing I'm not happy with today as far as winter is concerned,is my heating bill. Fuel man was just here. I don't know how in the world we used so much fuel. Had a leak in the barrel, but I changed that out about 2 months ago. Must be a hole in this house somewhere that I can't see.

Cold down south, too. About 24 at 7:00, winds 25 to 30, will put the windchill in the low teens to single digits. Had ice on the vehicles and front steps. Lows tonight through Sat night in the mid to upper teens. Not supposed to get above freezing until Sunday afternoon.

That may not be cold to you folks up north, but for Texas, that"s cold.

Got out yesterday and set the outside faucets to trickle, drained the water out of the waterers at the barn and gave the dogs a fresh armload of hay in their doghouses.

Since we"re not at the farm, the horses are on their own. They do have plenty of hay and with water coming from the spring, that won"t freeze up. Our cousin went by the house and set the outside faucets to trickle and plugged in the warming light in the well house, so we"re as ready as we can be.

Everybody stay warm and be careful, stay safe.

There's chunks of ice floating in the Mississippi in Southern Illinois, but it's not froze over.

SO it does get nasty in central Illinois from time to time. My grandfather ( Post was his name) was born and raised in your area and moved to north central Iowa in 1919. On days like today, I can't imagine what made him think he would be better off here. Probably got about two feet of snow on the ground, the temperatures in January have been way below normal and today we have a ground blizzard.

Here in Iowa I can see what is going to happen when all of this snow melts. flud flud flud.
Like we need that , o-well this is Iowa for ya
you guys stay safe and warm.

PS: If some one can figure out how to can this snow and sell it to people over in Irac we can get ritch. if some can figure that out i would like to buy in to the company, OK have a good one

Ain't "Global warming" a real bummer!! Everything around NW Colorado is frozen including the White River. Low temps have been in the single digits and below zero so many times I can't remember.

Hey Bryan,
That puts a date on you! Hmm mid 50s? HeHe,the 1966 blizzard?? Sure had fun when it was over with too,all the tunneling and just playing outside!March 1,2 &3? Where were you at,I lived in Edinburg at the time,my Dad walked to his dealership cause the 1966 Ford was buried.

I lived in the big town of Kloten ,between McVille and Antea. I remember dad plowing out some of the streets with his TD9 dozer . Some of the drifts were so hard dozer drove right over them . Talk about cabin fever ! How did survive those days . No cable , maybe three tv channels at best . lol

HeHe,yea, but we were out of school! I bet you can still hear that TD9 bark as it pushed that snow! And yes the tv channels,I think ours were Channel 4,12 and sometimes 11.
