I was watching some video's of those highly modified diesel tractors. I'm curious what RPM they're turning and what kind of HP they put out. Apparently they can take over a minute to spool up the turbo. A watched a couple Perkins V-8 Masseys and they just screamed. It's got to be scary when they blow up! Dave

I know they turn 6000 rpm, I think 2000 hp, Id have to check. These are water injected turbo diesels, some run up 4 turbos, One of them has 1 turbo the size of the front tire. Some run on alcohol

Inharent issue with the IH engines... seen a few that split just like that one did and shoved the entire upper half of the block off.

Look at the bright side... HAD some darn good head bolts!
Just a little too much water this time..

Ya know, i was looking at one of these kind of modified diesel's up close when i was in Rollag Minnesota, It appreared as though all they consist of is a built semi engine (the one i seen was a cat and had a HUGE single turbo on it) a semi-transmission, coupled to an agricultural rear-end (The one i looked as appeared to be a john deere articulator rear end) all tied together with a custom built frame and front axle. I found it very interesting

There was an email floating around before and the same thing happened, but this tractor actually ran over the top of the engine with the right rear tire. And they had it on a cam corder. chris

probably headed to change his shorts, but have seen it before, and once in person, quite the spectacle when it happens and it's not yours.

Either too much water injection and hydraulic lock. Or just so much combustion chamber pressure the block deck splits somewhere above the block bottom end webs.

Thats the Satisfaction 4 charger 1066 IH out of NY.5000 rpms,250 plus pounds of boost, and 2500 horses will find the weak spot in the block. On a 466 IH thats right at the cam line where this one broke.

I can think of a dozen other IH pullers that this has happened to including many time national champ Esdon Lehn from Minn. The AC's and JD's bust blocks too.Brian Shramek from MO has won 3 national championships running a 426 Allis block which is known to be weak. They have an elaborate tie bar system holding the block together and it works.

Hey there;
Everything has its breaking point!
In "normal" use, those old "tractor
engines",will last one helluva lot
"longer" !! Its a shame to "abuse"
them to their "breaking point" !!

God Bless

"Bring her on down too Bubba's welding and machine. We can weld the crack of dawn so this should be a piece of cake" LMAO

I overheard 3 competitors at a tractor pull 2 or 3 years ago complaining about block seperations like those when they got boost up to 250psi.
They were speculating that they would need a billet steel block to get past the block separation problem.

Did you see that antique pull on RFD that time when that old Moline blew? Took out a trophy on the announcers stand. You could see straight through it when they towed it away.

Yep, I bet if he had known there was poo on the track he'd of loaded her up and gone to the house!

:)

It's been a while but that on is still funny!

Dave
