Well I gotta go out and do the chores, its 10 degrees here with a wind chill of about -15 or so. I have to look up a wind chill chart. Were going threw the wood today, A little yellow birch, and oak!
Anyway I gotta bring home some canary grass mulch hay to bed the cows shed, everything I put in there they eat it...:( They havent even come out of the shed today, as far as Iv seen for a drink of water.
P.S. What ever happened to the Howells, Nancy and James.....? JayinNY

Have fun in that! I did chores in -30 degrees here in Mn this morning, wasnt real fun. At least we had almost no wind. But i had 4 froze waters and a bloated steer. Luckily all the waters unfroze with a little hot water.

Don't know this year, but last year,James and Nancy took about three or four weeks off from here around Christmas and New Years. Probably did it again.

Cold here in Michigan too,but it was easier to do chores today than it was in all the mud first of last week. We had rain Christmas day. Water sat there between the snow and the ground that didn't have much if any frost in it. A real nightmare in front of the feed bunks. It was cold enough today that the ice wasn't even slippery. Made chores a breeze.

cold temps and deep snow make me thankful for those dummy hay bales in the mow.
don't like them so much in the summer when tall kid and i pack them in the barn. at least i don't have to start a tractor to feed the cows until bales in barn are gone.
i wouldn't feel bad if i don't plow any more snow until dec 2010.

if I remember right they { the Howells } were going to the farm and be off { computer } for awhile ...
I may be WAY WRONG on that ....

the wind howled here all day too. it has let up a little tonight. morning chores took forever. i was sure glad to get done with milking tonight and put my feet up.

Hey Jay,

We"ve had 8 to 10 inches of snow over here 10 miles south of Cobleskill and its still snowing and BLOWING!
Temp was 6 this morning but it started going up mid afternoon; its "way up" to 13.5 right now.
I"m lucky that I no longer have any farm chores to do. All I had to do was go out and plow the driveway and bring in a wheelbarrow of wood.
I never burned yellow birch "til this year; it"s got lots of heat value. I burn mostly Ironwood (Hop Hornbeam) which is about the "Cadillac" of firewood in my opinion.
