I just saw a story about an 11 year old who bagged a really BIG feral hog in Alabama.

they must not have much experience with large ferals...anything over 200# is just plain nasty tasting...i got my doubts about hogs getting that big in the wild...more n likely fed and doctored up with growth hormones and then turned loose.

That pig was named Fred, lived on a hobby farm until a week before the kid shot it at a game farm. Guy that owned it, sold it to the game ranch. Used to like to eat bread by the loaf, came when he was called. No more wild than any other pet. I've hunted since I was a kid, but a lot of these game ranches are a joke. There was quite a bit of press coverage about it.

I had a feeling that a hog couldn't get that big fending for itself. We've had boars get pretty big, but never more than about 850-900#. And that is on good feed.

Still, it must have been something for the 11 year old.

I and my son shoot wild hogs. The largest we ever got was nearly 400 lbs, however, the norm seems to be in the 150-250 lb range. I haven't eaten a bad tasting ferel hog but like most wild game, the smaller ones seem less tough. Largest one we have BBQued was 300 lb boar, and he tasted GREAT! We do have corn and bean fields that we shoot over so perhaps they eat about the same as if thet were penned and fattened.

Farmers in some areas around here beg us to kill them all as they can destroy fields and crops.

That looks like a made up photo. It looks to me like the boy is 10 feet or so behind the hog. We have a few feral hogs here in AR but most big ones are in the 250-300# range.

I think the origonal hogzilla was a fake. according to the snoops article, the hunters that baged the origonal hogzilla claim that they cut the head off and buryed it in a seperate location. the hog exumed and hanging from the backhoe still clearly has it's head attatched
