OT: This is frustrating....

Hey guys :)

Im down on the farm this week again... And ive been keeping busy getting that S10 apart...

I used the welder to get the remains of the fenders and front clip off, which finally happened, and started bending the frame back... Im not doing too good just pulling it with a chain...

Does anyone have any ideas on bending a frame?? I dont have a torch...

And then today l started trying to get my ranger running again...

Its not getting fuel, so i reset the crash switch, and put in a new relay.

It hasnt worked since I put some of that nasty orange gas in, from the radiator shop from hell...

If anyone remembers that inncident, l took a gas tank from the B to a place in dayton, and they inbred there was supposed to clean the tank and seal it...

He just charged me $100 to dump a can of redcote in there...

And it all fell out. Atleast i got most of my money back...

He said the gas I put in should be fine if i just ran it through a really fine coffee filter a couple times...

And I was dumb enough to listen.

So now I have a dead truck and a brand new carberator that the parts fairy brought me that needs to be rebuilt.

I am not happy.

As if i dont destroy enough stuff to begin with.. Looks like other people are here to help me wreck more....

Where should I start now??

Is there any way to unclog a clogged up fuel pump??

If this work was easy everyone would do it! Look back on the lessons learned and chock that up to education. As for getting that crap out of your pump, I do not have a clue, maybe clean fuel, or maybe you got lucky and it plugged a filter.

Lanse, do you have somethin to tie the p up to? creativity and something substancial to tie it to and a hyd jack. On the pump, is it elec? if so and its a long shot, remove the thing from the hanger and try to run it backwards for a quick second. Most will run backwards but they hate to be run dry. It MIGHT spit a chunk at ya. HTH Fred

A hydraulic jack, a piece of I beam and a couple short pieces of chain and you can straighten a lot of things.

You should leave the frame straightening to a frame shop. A lot of tension and something slipping can cause injury or death. If it isn't straightened back to specs it won't drive worth 2 cents. Frame shops don't heat the frame except as a last resort.

I just picked up on the carburator in your post. If that is a mech pump if you have it off and you are sure it's plugged and not the screen in the tank, bury it in a can of gas and work it some. Maybe w/the outlet plugged? IDK if you can get it to movin you mite save it. good luck. fred

Lanse, my mom used to say son, keep your chin up things could get worse and you know what? she was right I did keep my chin up and things did get worse! Beyond that I suggest that you might follow the gasline from the tank to either the carburator or throttle body and look for a metal fuel canister filter they say all later model vehicles have one including Ford, GM etc. My 97 F-150 Haynes manual says I have one and talks about how to change it and even shows an illustration of the filter but for the life of me I can"t find it! I"ve had the replacement in a box in my shop for over ten years and haven"t been able to find where it is. My SIL had a similar problem with her 86 Chevy I think Lumina or Citation I finally found it two hours later in a most disgusting place one of those 1/4 turn swivel fittings and risk getting doused with a face full of gas. So I replaced it and she was good to go. You may have one of those but I don"t know where on the Ranger. Good Luck!

I agree to have a reputable frame shop straighten it. They would have all the proper dimensions and jigs to get it back to original. It is very possible to pull a frame too much and after that, it can't be put right. Heat isn't used unless it's absolutely necessary. I was watching a 60 minutes type show about a guy who's Dodge Avenger was like new after an accident except it wasn't road worthy because the so called expert frame shop pulled it a 1/4" to 3/8" too much and stretched the frame. It wouldn't drive in a straight line and couldn't be aligned. It's now an expensive ornament for display only. Dave

There is probably a screen on the fuel pump pickup tube in the tank.Just have to get all of that stuff out of the tank. You might be better off just getting a tank and pump from a salvage yard or take the tank off and steam clean it or something.By the time you do that you might be able to buy a tank and pump and be running again.

You should not try and bend a frame if its bent behind the front crossmember it needs to go to a frame shop.If its just the front of the frame in front of the crossmember bent a little you might straighten that out.Like if you can take that tractor with a loader and push it a little while chaining it to something so its kind of solid.Usually it will slide right about the time you move it unless you have it chained to a dozer or something. You dont want to heat a frame anyway because it might make it weak and easy to bend in that area.If its bent so bad you think you need a torch its probably not going to be any good when you get done with it heating on it.You can do a lot with a porta power, hydraulic jack and big hammer too.

Not everybody that tells you something knows what they are talking about.Even if they are older than you or work someplace that you think they should know, does not mean they do.I would have thought that filtering gas through a coffee filter would work myself.Shows how much I know about that.
