Things are a little slow today.

Got my days work done and am a little bored, figured I would stir the pot a little. Winter usually brings out the worst in many people ya know. So anyway an old friend of mine passed away about a month ago. This old boy was a collector of everything, and I mean everything. But his pride and joy was his tractor collection. Many, many old tractors, steam tractors, stationary engines etc etc etc. He has no family except for a niece who knows nothing about his collection. I have no way of controlling what goes on, but man if someone could only keep his collection together, perhaps a museum or non profit of some sort what a cool display it woud be. I am sure there will be an auction in the spring when the snow melts. What a sad day it will be. I think he even has the prototype for the "Essex Tri Directional" in his collection. I wonder what that will bring:>)

It always seems so sad to see an estate sale take place and what is being sold is someones life. All the little and big things that meant so much to him and only he knows how hard they were to find and repair. They will be scattered and gone all in a day. Then again if things were not sold like this he as well as all others couldn't buy collect and enjoy the things that he did and we all do.

MAYBE he didn't have any family before he died. But you can bet he will suddenly have tons of friends and relatives that surface now that they can sniff the money in the air.

maybe you are in his will,if he had one,and you would be the proud owner of all that! good luck and sorry about your friend.

Wonder if IDF would be proud that his trusty old "Essex Tri Directional" was still doing well?
It's liable to be chugging along 30 more years.....

Sounds like a nice collection. If the niece is not named in a will or the executor of the estate,..all the goodies may go through Probate Court. That would be a shame. Probably just the property and any money invested would be subject to Probate and taxes. The equipment may survive and indeed be auctioned off. Could be interesting for a closer look at who actually controls the estate.

Back in 2002 is when I first heard of the Essex Tri Directional but never could find out how many were built. I have never seen one and I gather they were/are quite rare. Any idea if the production ETDs were the same as the prototype? Any idea how much they weighed?

Thanks

It is unusual for anyone middle aged or older to die without some assets. Especially if you have put a lot of time and care into collecting anything, especially something like old machinery, you should by all means have an accurate inventory and WILL of how you want those items distributed after you die.

I guess I should take my own advice. It has been about 15 years and a lot of water under the bridge since my wife and I reviewed/revised our wills. Something to think about this year.

cousins husband was telling me about a friend of his passed away late last summer had 4 white 4-105 mighty tow tractors all with front wheel drive( i think that right) his kids were fighting about his new freezer before the funeral was even planned.
he said i have no idea how this is going to work out but some lawyer is going to make a bunch of money of it

Well...I hear what you are saying. After the mess when my dad died with no will, I made sure I have one.
I am not married and have no kids. I am not rich...but I am ok. Got 2 farms back east and a house here in Texas.
Got it right in the will...one cat fight and the whole kip and kabotle goes to the Boy Scouts of America.
Sure raised the hackels on my neice.

does the tri directional work anything like this????
