1966 dodge grain truck, add fluid to lift

I have a 66 dodge d500 with a 16 ft. bed, heil lift. I think I need to add some fluid but with the lift up, the most obvious place to add (plug at he pump) is under pressure. Does anyone know the best way to flush and refill the lift. It's a good rig, but unlike my WD45, doesn't have an obvious place to drain and fill the hydraulic resivoir. I have the original owners manual for the truck but not the lift.

First of all what kind of lift is it(single acting cylinder or other)? A lot of those if there is no external reservoir the oil is stored on the other end of the lift cylinder. SAFETY FIRST. MAke sure you have safety locks to keep the bed from falling down.

I used to work at a place that had a few of those trucks. The lift cylinder is the actual reservoir. We would always have a fork life under the bed and a safety lock between the bed and the frame at the same time when adding oil. That has to be one of the most dangerous setups I've seen, especially when you have to rebuild the cylinder and you need to lift up the bed.....when your reservoir is dry.
