I'm giving up on giving things for Christmas. I ordered a book from Amazon for the wife on 12/11. They said it was sent that day. Never got it. Contacted them yesterday, they said it must have gotten lost in the mail. Said the book was no longer available, out of stock so they would refund my money. Ordered tickets from ticketmaster for an upcoming concert that she wants to go to,they've charged it to my card, but they haven't shown up either. Bought her a new laptop. Picked that right up at the store. Asked the little puke specifically if it would run dialup internet. He said yes,but Windows 7 would be slow, she might have to shut down an few programs in it to increase the speed, said to google it to find out how. She opened it up Christmas morning. No modem,no dialup port. She called the store yesterday, they said they don't even sell laptops anymore that run dialup. Luckily one of my sons roommates is the assistant manager of the electronics department at that particular store. She ended up with a better computer that DOES run dialup for the same price, but just one more Christmas morning dissapointment. I told her next year she was getting cash. That didn't go over AT ALL. Just amazing how many different ways so many different people can skrew things up.

Zoom out to about 40,000 feet and see what difference it makes. None.

Enjoy your family and friends and let the rest go by.

PS think about how nice next year will be it can't get any worse.

wife hasn"t given me anything for years ...I put $500 cash in a card & she"ll leave me alone for a couple of weeks...been married to long to care anymore...take care ..Kent

I got my wife a cemetary plot, but she said I wasted our money because she hadn't even used the one I got her last year.

I don't have much Christmas shopping to do (a few token gifts for the wife, something for whichever son/daughter/in law I drew out of the hat). Usually hate shopping. This year, had a couple of belts before going, decided I was going to be happy no matter what.

It worked! Had a great time. Outlet malls apparently hired every high school girl in town, and they were very pleasant and helpful. People kept holding the door open for me, smiling, etc. I kept thinking maybe I had a piece of corn stuck in my teeth or something. Or maybe I'm just transitioning easily into geezerhood (61).

We ordered some stuff that hasn't shown up yet also (3-4 weeks). Chalked it up to the bad weather and cancelled flights. One package is vaccines and was shipped express, guess they'll be eating that one and sending them again.

I missed an anniversary once. Caught it running and got a gift and flowers but couldn't find a card which gave the oversight away. Since then, I buy gifts and wrap them for each major day within the following week and have them for the coming year.

(quoted from post at 09:53:06 12/27/09) I'm giving up on giving things for Christmas. .

I think that's exactly what you should do. My Dad, Mom, sister are all gone. Maybe you should forget the material side of Christmas and start thinking about how lucky you are to have a family.

Its Christmas all year at our house so the wife and I dont give each other presents at Christmas time. Its a relief to not have to run around shopping for everyone because no one seemed to like what they got.

For Christmas we do give our grown up son $100 cash and also give some donations to charity.

My uncle works for fedex and he said that they had everyone out doing deliveries on christmas since they were behind. Between all the bad weather and everyone shipping stuff last minute it overloaded their system.

It seems like nobody is in business for the long term anymore, most sales people lie shamelessly and don't know their products anyway. I have done business with a local hardware as long as I can remember because of the service and the fact they know what you need and will order it if they don't have it, I gladly pay more because these people want my business enough to render a service instead of yawning and scratching their fat butts like they do in Lowes or Home Depot.

Wife got a catolog from a firm her 4-H club orders calendars for resale from. Liked a couple items, circled them and left catalog for me, Called 'em up, made my order, right down to arranging payment. Then order taker told me they were unavailable, wouldn't be getting any more.

PS: They messed up the 4-H orders big time this year too.
