Cleaning the Shop Floor

I finally found a good use for WD 40. My shop floor gets a lot of oil from drips under the tractors and stuff that I work on. The concrete was sealed with a clear sealer, but it is not resistant to gasoline or brake fluid.

So, what I do to clean up is sprinkle the Oil Dry granules on the oil to soak up the liquid. Then after sweeping that up, there is still a residue of oil which never seems to get clean.

I finally hit on spraying the spots with WD 40 and wiping up with a rag. The WD 40 evaporates in a couple of hours and the floor is good again. Does anyone else have a secret clean-up method that works better for them? Just trying to learn---

I usually spread a 'dam' of cat litter around the spot, then flood the spot with paint thinner. After it sets for awhile, just spread the litter on the paint thinner to soak it up. As that is now considered a 'dry' product, just put out with the trash! Greg

Mild stains like ones caused by fuel oil when sometimes mistakes happened at loading racks we used to use Tide and hose down area first and sprinkle Tide on and scrub lightly with bristle broom and hoe it off It would also take off motor oil that accumulated from some trucks that were in over a period of time ,of course there was a waste pit that that water would drain into.

Agree with Greg. If the spot is still wet, soak up the extra with cat litter.

Then build the dam around and use whatever is handy, mineral spirits/paint thinner.

I always keep a 40 poinder of cat litter around. Sometimes on those big oil changes I can"t switch the pans quick enough.

I use "oil dry" to soak up the liquid, which may take a few "turnovers", then when it's dry, use new oil dry and "grind it into" the floor with your shoe, takes the stain away.

I had some old oil stains on my concrete floor that were in to stay it seemed. Finally I sprayed them down good with carb cleaner and let set a few minutes and wiped them up. Some spots had to be done more than once.
