I am looking at a case 1530 series skid steer to buy and would like the opinion of anyone who owns this model tractor or one similar. These are older machines and I would like to know the pros and cons when compared to the later model machines.

I had one for about 10 years- more down time than up time, due to the 30 hp Wisconsin and the gearbox. Granted, I could have fixed it sooner, but I really NEEDED it only a few times per year. Remember it is old technology with the variable speed belt drive. Old stuff gets spsendy to fix, too. Seal went out on gearbox, underneath, unseen. Ruined $500 gears. New box was over $1300. Internal spline hyd pump is hard to find or fix. Sold it for 3 grand when fixed, bought a 4625SX Gehl hydro- fantastic improvement. 1530 is ok for what it can do- rather unsafe with no roll cage though. Did like the hand controls- Gehl has the same idea.

I don't think they were very popular so parts are probably going to be hard to get. Case machines got popular with the original 1845 and the later 1845C, 1840 etc. were good machines. There were 1845B's but only for a short time before the C's replaced them. Ritchie Bros. auctions had a couple 1845B's they used for moving stuff around. A hydrostatic machine is a far better machine than one that uses belts and clutches. There are several makes of good used machines to consider. Let us know what you come across. Dave
