i bought a vanbrunt grain drill a few months back it says FB 137A on it is this the model number for this drill.and are they a good drill.and where can i find a manual for it thanks RICK.

Does it say John Deere on it? If it was newer it would. The Vanbrunt factory was in Horicon Wi and was bought by J.D. probably in the 1940's now it is the J.D. garden tractor factory. Anyone want a large, rough, J.D.Vanbrunt drill near Madison Wi?

Rick, you have a model FB drill. The "137" means it has 13 openers spaced 7" apart. Van Brunt was purchased by Deere around the time of their major reorganization in 1911. The drills said "Van Brunt" on them clear until the 8000 series drills were introduced in the early 1970's. Your dealer should be able to get a book for you with no problem or you can order them directly from Deere. My friend Buickanddeere will gladly give you their phone number. Mike

Hey Rick,

They're a very good drill. I have a Model B and used it last year to plant 15 acres of wheat and 10 acres of rye. Your FB is similar to mine, except the "F" means fertilizer. The big boxes at the back of yours are for fertilizer. Unless it was WELL maintained, they'll be junk by now. My F-I-L has an FBB and the fertilizer boxes are full of mouse eaten bags and broken parts. The second B on his means it's a newer model.

I never had a manual for mine. Most of the info you really need is found on the underside of the lid.

Good luck

Mother deere has a website that can get you that manual, just google it. Pe prepared to pay some $, though, cause some are pretty pricey. Around here, in the MD, DE, PA area there is a traveler who goes from show to show in the fall, selling manuals, I have seen numerous manuals for JD VB drills, most of the time in the $15-35 range.

Is there a grass seeder box on the front or back? Is the metal galvanized steel or green painted steel? Is the fertilizer box made of cast iron plates and individual cast spinners on vertical shafts?
1-800-522-7448 for the manuals. JD web site has the parts online.
That $$$ manual is cheaper than not getting your crop planted.

the old timer i got it from said it has never had fertilizer in the boxes.he didnt want them ate out. but im thinking of using them just have to clean them out super good. RICK
