update 02 silverado axle

Well, I am stuck in Forrest City Ark with a shot rear end housing.. dang thing cracked the end of the axle housing... Axle itself is ruined too. Problem with being deaf is ya don't hear these things until way too late, I guess.

Anyone know any good salvage yards nearby? It is an 02, V6 auto 2wd SIlverado.. 41 teeth ring gear 12 tooth pinion. I think I saw a Pickapart in West memphis I am gonna try and track down...

By the way had the axle not gone so far all the suggestions to repair it were spot on. I am ha;lf tempted to find someone to weld the crack up and stuff a new bearing and shaft in it ...but I think maybe I better not.
 
i may have found one for you at arkansas bridgepoprt road auto salvage 242 worley rd west memphis arkansas, about 30 miles form you, phone 870-735-3763. i talked to a fellow over there, they have a truck in the lot with a v6 in it, they are checking the ratio and will call me. i'll let you know as soon as they call me back. glenn
 
Welding one up is not at all a good idea and it done it would need to be done right or it is an accident waiting to happen and could kill others to boot. That said it is not all that hard to find a complete rear end and install it, just did one last week. But it can cost you a good bit of $$ to get one at a salvage yard checked that out and the one I found they wanted $350 for it but I did some looking around and got one for swapping one I had. I needed a 3:07 and this guy wanted a 3:42 so we swapped them and every body is happy.
Oh by the way are you sure yours is a 12-41?? Because if it is then it is a 3:33 which I have not heard of but who knows. Now if it is a 12-40 that is a 3:42

Found an picked up a good rear end from an 04, installing it tomorrow...Took a little doing to get it here.....but finally found an older ex mechanic willing to give it and me a ride..

TEH one Bridgeport had was wrong ration unfortunately..

But thanks a bunch for tryin!!
